I’m tired of battling my fridges ice maker and given up on repairing it. Anyone recommend a counter top ice maker $200-300 range?

I had the GE one. It lasted 2 years. If you google you can see they all break down in that time and can’t be fixed.

frick. For real? That’s the one I got last year at Xmas. No problems with it so far and love having pellet ice at the house.

I had a Magic Chef. Cost $90-100 and lasted almost three years. We ran it into the ground…it worked for hours every day. We have a Frigidaire now. Works the same way and has been going hard for about a year. Makes bullet ice and does not tie into the water line. We have been pleased. I keep threatening to buy the GE Opal but just havent pulled the trigger.

We’re on our 2nd Opal 2.0. I squeezed 3 years out of the first one. It would have lasted longer had I started cleaning / descaling it sooner than I did. It works great and makes ice very fast.

Yea the opal 2 was the one we had. I was mad and wanted to chunk it. My wife did all the research to try to fix it and finally gave up. I can’t remember what the issue was but I was very common online and happened after around 2 years. We did a pretty good job with the maintenance. I guess we got our moneys worth.

I've had my original opal for 6 years.
Still runs like a top. Use it every day.
Difference may be that I don't use it with tap water.

I just bought a new Opal last week. When I saw your post, I went to the store and loaded up on distilled water!

Probably a good idea. Houston water is pretty terrible and probably wreaked havoc that thing.

Mostly correct. You can take the units apart and clean out the scale which causes a horrible screeching noise which you can't ignore. The taking apart, cleaning and putting back together takes about an hour the first time you do it and then about 30 minutes each time after that. It's a PITA, no doubt, but the ice is great.

I'm shopping pellet ice makers, they all have the same general feedback. Some leak, some break within a year. I want one that I can put a water line into, we have a whole home RO filter and softener so I think we'll be fine on the supply front. I hate all of the random fake brands that are really the same machine on Amazon.
