I agree with lsumailman61. The Mashed Potatoes are terrible as is the powdered-based gravy that they put on them. In fact... All of their side items are crap.

Well gee guys...I mean c'mon! Mashed potatos...with Bar-B-Q! That's just not right! Potato Salad with BBQ! Not mashed, and NOT fries! POTATO SALAD with BBQ!

Hey, I didn't create the frik'n menu, I just ordered from it. And when I went, I ordered all of the side items for tasting purposes because I really enjoy them. I found their sides to 'VERY WEAK'.

The meat was not bad. Smoke-ring was present, delicous, and moist. But if you are going to offer an accompaniment to your main Meat on the plate, then Dont Serve CRAP!

My Message to the people who run and operate Cou-Yon's BBQ: If you can't do it right, then don't do it at all.

Had the Brisket and Sasuage plate Friday night it was below average. They gave me one big thick piece of brisket that was nothing but fat. The sausage was dried out and they forget my baked beans. I will give them one more try since it is close to my house.

I AGREE with your point. MY point was not about the quality of the mashed potatoes, but rather that mashed potatoes are not a BBQ side dish at all.

According to whos rules? The United State Cultural Commision of Barbecued Meats (USCC-BM)? Mashed Potatoes have played a role to a variety of meats for a very long time. Just because the BBQ joint that your dad brought you to as a child didn't have Mashed Potatoes on the Menu doesn't mean that they dont belong there.

The fact is, Mashed Potatoes are a perfect accompaniment for most all types of Barbecue because of the bland flavor. I am just asking that they are done right and the dried Mashed Potatoes flakes that are rehydrated in the Microwave with butter and milk and passed on as home cooking say alot about the people who run the restaurant, they are f^cking horrible people to serve such crap!

Another issue. I enjoy brown gravy with Smoked Meats. Sometimes I am not in the mood for a vinegar bath over my super moist, tender smoked brisket. Is this wrong, F^CK NO! Just because it may not be what what you find commonly in a BBQ joint does not mean that it doesn't belong there. I would love to go into a place like Cou-Yons and be able to order a delicous savory Brown Gravy over my juicy smoked pulled pork. Am I going to get this all the time, most likely no. But I would love to have the option if the Gravy was 'damn good' enough.

I am just asking that it is done right and the dried caramel-colored bouillion powder that is rehydrated in the Microwave with water and passed on as a home cooked gravy says alot about these people who run Cou-Yons, they are f^cking idiots! They cook up hundreds of pounds of meat each week which produces 'drippings'. These drippings could be used to make one hell of a delicous Gravy. But they are just too f^cking Lazy to strive for perfection!

DaddyFrogLegs...Dude...Partner...RELAX!

Gee whizz fella! Take it easy.

You're getting upset...over mashed potatoes!

Look, my statement about mashed potatoes not being a proper BBQ side...well obviously this is my opinion. Is it really necessary for me to attach "IMHO"...

In my experience...mashed potatoes is not served with BBQ. Maybe in your experience it is. OK, but MY opinion is based on MY experiences. Where I'm from, the local high school's annual Booster Club BBQ sale never featured Mashed potatoes with the half chicken. You get rice dressing, POTATO SALAD, and baked beans. This is pretty much what is always served with BBQ. Cole slaw and corn on the cob are OK also. These are the sides I grew up eating with BBQ, so they are the ones I consider correct. I never had french fries with BBQ until I came to Baton Rouge...Sonny's on Florida Blvd....and I've never had mashed potatos with BBQ at all.

DaddyFL..ya want mashed Potatoes and brown gravy with your BBQ...God Bless Ya partner...go for the gusto, but don't jump down my throat because I state an opinion that that doesn't go with BBQ. Maybe if it did you would see more BBQ places offer it. If you don't like the mashed potates at the place...DON'T ORDER IT!

Regarding that pan dripping gravy...we agree that is better than gravy mix gravies...BUT...BBQ is a cooking method that DOES NOT produce pan drippings. The drippings fall on the coals which aid in imparting the BBQ flavor to the meat...but cannot be salvaged for gravy. BBQing, Braising, smothering...not the same thing.

Regarding sauces...I'm not a big sauce hound, but I prefer Louisiana style sauce...JACK MILLER'S or PIG STAND or soMething similar...again, this is what I grew up on. I can eat and enjoy the national style sauces...Texas, Kansas City, etc., but I prefer Louisiana style, which is the best...IMHO.

Good luck in your quest for good mashed potatoes and brown gravy with BBQ.

Food is pretty good here. Had a sausage sandwich with the mac & cheese. Liked the taste of the cheese and didn't find it as the others here described. It wasn't that eggy type clumped up mac & cheese (which made me very happy).

My old man had a three meat plate. He tried the lean brisket, pulled pork and turkey. I took a bite of everything he had & it was all pretty tasty. He liked the pork the best & I thought the brisket was good.

Our neices had the Cou Cou nachos with chopped beef and a loaded gator tater. Nachos looked fabulous & the girls ate them all.

The place was nicer on the interior than the one in Baton Rouge.
