Getting together with a buddy for a cold one after work. Looking for a decent place close off of 1-10 between Essen and Hwy 73 in Prairieville. Suggestions?

That's a pretty huge range (Essen-73). I'd pick the closest bar to where you lay your head at night and start drinking. If you want specific quality of food or female eye candy, that will change the recommendation.

Twin Peaks has the coldest beer in town, baw!
If you want to meet him in Prarieville, go to Tiger Tavern.
If you want to stay in BR, Chimes East and the Londoner are your only great options in that swatch of town, but both are a little out of the way for sure.

If you're going to 73, hit up the Cottage or Tiger Tavern. On the Half Shell is in Prairieville at Old Perkins & Airline

I'm going to assume by cold beer you don't mean craft beer.
That said, the cottage is your place for a local AP crowd and the chance for slutty teacher. Or one of the many high end daiquiri shops at the 73 exit.
If going to Essen then you would be interested in Cadillac Cafe.

I stopped there one night last week for a cold one. Was not a bad place. Real friendly crowd. The bartender introduced me to all of the patrons.
