Chain haters rejoice

quote:

After months of wrangling with neighbors and finally receiving approval in January from city planners, beleaguered burrito chain Chipotle is backing out of what would have been the first Chipotle in New Orleans proper, according to a lawsuit filed by its landlord, 2801 Magazine, LLC, this week.

“Since we began exploring possibilities for that site, we have made some changes to our priorities and have decided not to move forward with that location,” a spokesperson for Chipotle told Eater NOLA today.

This is good news for the Irish Channel and Garden District neighbors and activists who staunchly opposed it, arguing that national chains could dilute the cultural potency of the street.

The New Orleans NIMBYs who rather a dilapidated crack house over something non local rejoice.

Hell didn’t they bitch about a Cuban place in the corner of the FQ on Rampart so much that the developers said frick it? It was a rotting abandoned gas station for decades and will be for decades more.

I might have agreed with you on this in the past, but the last few times I've gotten moes, it's been garbage. I ate Chipotle today and it was tasty.

And Quiznos!!!

Hey, but at least we have that new beer store with two shelves in a cavernous space replicating what Rouses sells at a 20% premium.

This running off of Chipotle doesn’t really bother me, but the fact that they ran off Superica in the old Bayou Burger very much does. That place is legit IMHO

I may be getting my shitty burger spots confused. You’re right, Creole Cuisine ain’t letting that spot go.

The last thing Magazine St. needs is another Mexican place. It has at least 6, not counting Izzos.

Crack house? It was in the garden district section of magazine.

Keep your crappy chains and asphalt strip malls out in the suburbs where they belong.

Probably just people who live near. I went to Izzo's a couple times when I lived in the area. Definitely not the best food, but it was convenient and walkable.
