what's the deal? take out place? locally owned?

Looks like a sit down/take out. No word on who owns it.

I just finished getting take out for lunch. Menu is not like most other Chinese places. Slightly limited in selection. Combo, which came with entre, fried rice, and egg roll, was between 7.99 and 8.99 depending on which type of meat you got. I got Kung Pao chicken. I was not bad, pretty good. I don't feel like I ate a bunch of nasty crap like I do after most Chinese food. I ate most of it which is unusual for chinese combos at lunch. Typically there is a lot left over for seconds. I will go back but not regularly because of the expense. Nine Dragon, even though it makes me feel like crap afterwards, will still be my Chinese food of choice around campus.

Apparently it is owned by a family who had a chinese restaurant in New Orleans, pre Katrina.
You can tell that the food is fresh, the family is nice as can be. Like previously stated, didn't make me feel like crap like most chinese and I had a bunch left over.
That being said, it is right off of campus, and the main customer is students. Most students have complained that it's a bit pricey, however, I think the quality makes it worth it.
I did spend $10 on an entree and drink.
The inside is really nice, as well. I'll probably go back in at most a month or so, or whenever they get sake bombs.

yeah $10 for chinese "buffet" (a la 9 Dragon) seems pretty pricey for students....I work f-t and go to school and really would like to eat sushi weekly, but I certainly can't afford that all the time, so it sounds comparable.

student or not, i don't understand how 10$ is considered pricey for lunch. unless you are ordering off of the dollar menu at a fast food joint, 10$ bucks sounds pretty normal/reasonable for lunch.

It's the most expensive place in that area that is not a full service restaurant.
I rarely spend $10 on a lunch that is not full service.

Sounds like their food is good, fresh and worth the $$. They could be targeting staff instead of students.

So after mixed reviews, I tried this place for an early lunch today in the midst of studying for finals.
I must say, that it was entirely fresh, and right at $10.00. I had the Kung Pao chicken combo entree, and I thought it was better than Nine Dragon, China Taste, & China City.

Compare your meal, amount of food wise, to a nine dragon lunch.

I really like this place. It strikes a nice balance between the picture menu places that all serve the same goopy dishes drowning in sauce and nicer places, like Taste of Asia or Five Happiness in Nola.
The food is undeniably fresher, and it's only a few bucks more than takee-outee joints. I've eaten there for lunch twice, and did not spend more than $10 each time.

Food was good! Didn't feel nasty and greasy. The vegetables were all fresh and you could see them chopped up in big bins in the fridge. Eggroll was also very good!
VERY clean, nice inside.
ETA: I did get a headache after eating there, and again when I ate my leftovers... not sure if there's a connection... and I always heard the MSG/headache thing was a myth. Who knows.

I'm holding out for the opening of the hilariously named "Kung Fu Buffet" on Sherwood. I wonder if they sell karate chop suey.

For twice the price of nine dragons 4.86 general tsos chicken lunch, I will pass.

On their menu it says all food cooked with NO MSG!, I don't know if that's a myth or not.

went there last night around 9:30 and they still had a decent amount of customers. They make your dish to order and the ingredients are much fresher than nine dragon or your typical chinese place. Not quite as much food and about $1-2 more expensive than nine dragon's dinner but much better quality. My friend had the bourbon chicken which was very good. I'll definitely choose this place over nine dragon for dinner, but the dragon's lunch price is too good to pass up.

FWIW, I don't think this place is even a direct competitor ro Nine Dragon, especially after the responses in this thread. They are fairly different in their approaches and target different types of customers.
