"I wish I would have gotten a smaller grill" -Nobody Ever

While I love my Primo Jr for getting to 800ish degrees in a few minutes and cooking the best damn steaks and burgers you will ever eat, I can't wait to get a bigger model. I can and have smoked on it plenty but it seems that the smaller area, even at the same low temps, cooks too fast.

Thanks everyone. This is the kind of advice/commentary I was hoping for. If anyone else has anything to add, I would love to hear it, but if not, Merry Christmas.

Another vote for the KJ II. Plus the red just looks better than the green.

I can save y’all a few bucks on primos and kamado joes. Haven’t fooled with eggs tho. Primo has a round one like a egg/kJ that they have aggressively priced to compete with the KJs. My primo discount is better Than the KJ. I can do any one as long as I hit my min to order from either place. Nolagt3 at gmail if interested.

I'm a Weber Summit Charcoal fan. Steel instead of ceramic. Double walled. I think it is the size of the BGE XL. Light weight - easy to move if necessary. Had mine for a little over a year and no complaints. It might cost slightly more than the BGE, but I think it is worth it.

Another advantage - Can use lump or briquettes.

The firebox divider is what sold me on the Primo XL. Plus the shape is better for larger cuts like briskets.

What is this based on?

Primo/Kamado Joe > BGE.

Personal opinion. Just did not think the primo was as well put together as the BGE. Agree that the KJ is well made.

I understand, but there has to be some basis to form this opinion. What on the Primo sticks out to you as subpar?

This thread got me curious so I googled ceramic grills. Apparently there’s a company called Louisiana-grills that has a ceramic grill. Has anyone even heard about Louisiana grills or used one? If it’s a locally made product I’d love to support a local brand. According to this website it’s top 5 ceramic grill on the market.

ETA: looked them up Headquarters are in Phoenix Arizona. They are a poser company. still if anyone has used one, I’m still curious.

Don’t we all

I prefer the oval shape and the firebox divider of the primo over other features of any of the grills. I use the box half full a lot and can get a full firebox pretty easy also can fit 6+ full racks of ribs without issue. The KJs look nice too tho...I’d probably get either of those over a egg but haven’t looked closely at them in person.

I have the XL. I can’t imagine working on something smaller. If anything, sometimes I wish I had more space. That’s when the gas Weber next to it comes in handy.

It is more like a ceramic than it is like a regular Weber and is similar in price to many ceramics. I just think it has advantages over ceramic.
