New to the area. Any suggestions?

Not looking for a steakhouse or fine dining, just good eats that won't rape my wallet

Try Amerigo in Ridgeland or Strawberry Cafe in Madison.

There is a place in Jackson called Babalu. Pretty decent small and large plates. Sides are great. You need to get the guacamole though. Make it homemade at your table and it's amazing. Wife and I will go there just for it.

Sal and Mookies for great pizza and ice cream, Babalu's as mentioned by someone else, Walker's Drive-In, Trace Grill in Ridgeland for decent ribs/burgers. I've heard Keifer's in Jackson has good Greek food, but haven't tried it yet. Hope this helps.

Mermaid cafe at lake caroline is great.

Eta: maybe great is not the word but very good. Recommend trying it.

Burgers and blues and majestic burgers are a couple others. B&B has a laid back frat house feel with corn hole and ring game outside. Usually has some good music. Burgers are solid too. It's really close to shapley's in ridgeland

Parker House and Elys in Ridgeland. Ticos, shappleys, walkers and chat in Jackson for steak. Table 100 in flowood. Babalu for Mexican in Fondren, nicks for steak in Fondren, sal and moookies for pizza in Fondren, and again, walkers in Fondren. Kiefers is Greek in Belhaven. My wife freaking loves that place. There are a couple good places downtown but we never go.

Oh, and there is no decent BBQ in Jackson, even though that makes no sense. Should be BBQ everywhere, but there isn't. Best burger in town is at CSs, but be careful, it's on West st. In the hood

Also went to a cooking class thing once at Ro'chez in Ridgeland. He used to work for Emeril in Nola. Fun and good. I'll do it again

For lunch, go to Mama Hamil's on Hwy. 51 between Ridgeland and Madison. Best southern home cooking you can find.
