Next time you caramelize onions add a tablespoon of tomato paste per onion after the onion starts turning brown and keep stirring until the paste also turns brown. Then push that mixture to the side of the pan, and splash on a tablespoon of olive oil. Set your favorite steak in the hot oil. Five min on each side. Rest and slice steak, then top with the onion catsup + pan juices.

Put them on your homemade Steak Egg and Cheese Bagel (since McD's doesn't sell them anymore).

What kind of steak do you use?

Slice NY Strip thin sliced, into a hot pan, add steak, caramelized onion and balsamic. Serve on French Baguette with mayo. Great sandwich.

Tomorrow morning, I'm just going to use a hamburger patty from Sam's. McD's used to have a special kind of meat that seemed like it was made of beef slices that were fused together. Maybe they used meat glue that everyone seems to hate, I don't know.

They also originally used this or something very much like this:

Otherwise, it's just a plain bagel, cheese and egg.

Yeah that’s been my issue. Ive tried tenderized round, and I’ve even tried to slice really thin and you still have to tear it with your teeth.

Just wasn’t sure if you had found something that worked well.

Back when they were still good, it seemed like slices (maybe scraps) of roast beef that were seasoned, rolled into a log and held together with meat glue. Then sliced crosswise into patty shapes.

So I made the Steak, Egg and Cheese Bagel this morning.

Starting the onions.

Burger patties cooked.

Eggs cooked.

Onions done.

I mixed a little mustard and mayo with a heavy sprinkle of dill weed. Here it is spread on the bagel halves.

Finished Steak egg and Cheese Bagel. Cheese was cheddar slices from Trader Joe's.

Assembling this was a lot of work for a quick breakfast. The beef patty was definitely the weak component. McD's probably used a lot more salt than I did, which would obviously enhance the taste, but my wife and I are salt-restricted.

Overall, I'd give this attempt a 5 out of 10. Kind of dissapointed with the taste really.
