I think it’s an old Acadiana thing. Only place I’ve ever personally experienced it was in Church Point. But I worked with some SW La natives who complained about eating cantaloupe after meals while growing up. To the point where the didn’t like melons at all.

My grandmothers are from east Alabama and eat cantaloupe with and after almost every meal. It’s not just with breakfast too.

Someone gave me a sugar kiss melon. It looks like a cantaloupe. I don't know if it's a type of cantaloupe or another type of melon, but it's the most delicious melon I've ever had.

I served a cold salad supper and one of salads was a fruit salad with cantaloupe in it. Very refreshing when temps are over 100 degrees.

In SE Louisiana, it is a common side dish with smothered potatoes (patate etouffee).
I'm not a fan of cantaloupe. It gives me the burps.

I love cantaloupe but it destroys my stomach. Rancid gas for hours.
