Can I reuse oyster shells?

I shucked a bunch and had great char grilled oysters. I kept and cleaned some of the better looking shells.
I want more char grilled or baked oysters but don't want to go through the hassle of shucking them. Are there any problems using these shells again?

Wash them really well and dry out in the sun.

I have a friend who washes them and sticks them in the dishwasher to sterilize. He used the mostly for oysters Rockefeller and Beinville.
That was a common practice for restaurants for a long time before it was banned many years ago.

I scrub and soak them in very hot water. Then, I run them through the dishwasher a few times.

Yes you can. They will go through a dishwaher very well. The result is a sterlized shell ready for re-use.

I dont know if I would trust a dishwasher near as much as boiling water with the killing of all or most bacteria.

Clean em good and put em in the freezer for the next cook out.

I worked for a place in the Crowne Plaza that was doing this still in 2008. Sad.
I do hate the shucking part, I shucked two boxes of Oysters yesterday. So 200 oysters. But they were big and pretty. Made perfect chargrilled oysters.
I would re-use the shells for Oysters La Louisianne though... (fried oysters served in a oystershell)

Dishwashers sanitize on steam settings, steam being water vapor that is hotter than boiling...

Boil them in a crawfish pot. Remove them a few at a time as this will assist in them drying quicker. Then bag them up in zip locks and freeze. I freeze them so there is no chance of bacteria growing but know people that put them in small plastic totes until they use them.

I spentan entire 8 plus hour night shift at the Windsor Court shucking the biggest oreder of oysters. 2,000, my hands ached for a few days.
