Hmm, whatcha mean by riffraff? I can only imagine. Bozo's is great, but they certainly had a long history of not wanting to serve certain people. (As do a few old New Orleans seafood restaurants, makes me wonder why NO seafood restaurants had more of a history of bigotry than others.)

Off of Broad in Mid-City/Gentilly. They had to do what they had to do. The neighborhood turned to shite.

if you ever want REAL nola food advice just go to www.nomenu.com...fitz is an eating machine who is not afraid to tell it how it is. His blog is impeccable with respect to being up to date and incredibly informative. This is me and my friends Bible...
Take this crap somewhere else. Tom is a paid advertiser and nothing more. He knows restaurants better than most, but you never know if he is pimping for his friends or who is paying the most at the time for ads. Look up Mikes American Grill on the website if you can still find it.

Underrated. Simple, well prepared, fresh seafood.

I have always heard great things about Bozo's. The old man got out of the business a year or so ago and now I hear that some of the family that took over may be getting out or may have already left. Does anyone know the story with this?

I have no idea other than what I've read here (that other family members were running it), but I always loved Bozo's and last time I went (January) I was highly disappointed. The kicker was my husband and I basically insisted his friend take us there, his friend was hesitant (and he always wanted to go to Bozo's), we go, and his friend was right to be hesitant. Made it seem it was an ongoing thing and not just a glitch. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I went Sat. night...
They definitely fry seafood very, very well. Oysters and catfish are excellent.
Gumbo was freaking baaad - a yellowish roux is never a good sign.
Hard to believe that a bowl of gumbo, a seafood platter and an iced tea came to $45 after tip. Maybe their raised their prices in the last few weeks, I dunno.

could 1 person eat all of that, or are the bowl and platter enough for 2 people?

It was two of us that split that, but there was definitely a good amount of bread consumed as well.
The platter kind of shocks you, 'cause it's fairly small for $25 - very no frills.
Shrimp are a little funky - would have loved to traded those for more oysters.

The catfish/oyster combo is the best thing at Bozo's for my taste.
ETA: Were the tea re-fills gratis?

Bozo's is fantastic. I prefer Casamento's, but I can't argue with Bozo's.

Me too. IMO the two best oyster/fried seafood joints in metro NO.

Yeah, they didn't hit us too bad in that department.
Did you ever read that recent New York Times article about the NO food scene?
There was a picture of Boswell putting liquid nitrogen in the iced tea (they only served me plain bottled) to make it super cold - I would have been a lot more happy to pay $6 for pyrotechnics with my iced tea!

It was so good that I dream about the squab and dirty rice entree. Also the roasted beet and crabmeat salad. The two best thing I have ever eaten in my life.

Wish I would have tried it.
Is that the place near Audubon Park where the building was supposed to become another restaurant (a few years ago), but the city council (or something else) kept it from happening?
