here is a Bourbon Tasting Sensory Kit I've seen these for beer and wine too butam too cheap to fork over $150 for a kit.

quote:

24 aromatic essences that cover the spectrum of aromas typically found in Bourbon Whiskies A 40 page manual that walks you through the training, and includes a guide to recreating the aroma profiles of major Bourbon brands Aroma strips, which allow each aroma to evolve over time just as Bourbon evolves after time in the glass A scoresheet that reinforces what you've learned from session to session

Yet, I've run across a handful of people who claim they can.

I didn’t say it was impossible. I said it’s something you can learn or train yourself to know.

Understood, but the people who just jumped into it, and is now chasing after the “cool ones” because everyone else is, or the rando at the bar who ordered a knob creek on the rocks (not knocking it, I enjoy a knob creek) at the bar and starts talking about flavor profile, probably isn’t in that elite group of skilled or trained people.

Oh yeah 100% agreed. That’s more brand snobbery than actually knowing what they’re talking about.

Yes and no.

Taste not as much once a certain quality is reached.

Smell? 100000% percent

I say EFFE the diffrent hints of flavor. Its marketing to get more money IMO.The biggest diffeence are the alcahol content. Which most call the burn. I havnt found a bourbon that i dont like.
