Bonfires on the levee?

We want to see them this year.
What area should we drive through?
Are there any good (Afternoon, not evening) places to eat?
Should we drive the south or North Levee?
Has anyone been who can tell us how long it will be (We know the traffic will be heavy) to make the drive from Gramercy to Paulina?
I understand this may not be possible. Where should we park if all we can do is walk? What is the best walking area?
If we get through in time, Where should we go to eat a later dinner, probably away from the bonfire area?

There are some in the Garyville area as well. One of the most popular builders is in the Garyville area.
The drive from Gramercy to Paulina can sometimes take over 30 minutes. As far as parking and walking, usually people just find a place as close as they can.
The lighting usually starts around 7:00 P.M.
As far as food, Nobile's is probably the best place to eat that is close by.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the information. Rat, we won't mind staying in the car, so that won't be a problem. I'd hate to get out and get jumped by my serial downvoter.

I have to second the butter beans and shrimp suggestion.
About the bonfires, if you just ride from paulina to Gramercy it’s really nice to see all of the bonfires. Just know that traffic will be crawling along. But we always enjoyed it with the kids.

Thanks. We understand the traffic will be slow. Would still like to drive the levee for Bonfire night, I guess just like everyone else.

Just FYI we have the green light at the moment to build but it is up in the air to burn because it will depend which phase we are in and what restrictions we might have as it Gets closer.

My BIL has a permit as well. He lives along River Road. My mommas family lives in Vacherie and we Christmas eve there. We get out to the levee about 3, ride from Garyville stop at my SILs house in Lutcher, ride to Paulina and high tail ut out of there fro about 5 and head to Vacherie. Traffic is normally pretty light about that time. You can see all the bonfires before they lit. Seeing them lit a time it 2 is fun. Eating places are few and far between, that's there biggest night of the year and not many places are open.

The lighting has been cancelled per St. James Parish Unified command:

Over the last several weeks the Unified Command Group has met to determine all possible alternatives for safely continuing with this tradition, however, the latest announcement earlier today of a 16.9% positivity rate in St. James Parish has required the cancellation of this event. Tomorrow, December 10th at 12 pm, Parish President, Pete Dufresne will host a Facebook Live discussion to address in more detail how this decision was made as well as permit refunds and deconstructing of previously built bonfires. If you have not yet built your bonfire, we ask that you do not continue with construction. This was by no means an easy decision to make as this tradition is long standing and special to our community in particular. We understand this has been an extremely difficult year for many of us and we have hoped for a sense of normalcy in the Christmas season especially, however we must first and foremost protect the heath, safety and well-being of our residents.

A person I work with is part of a group that builds one every year. He told me a couple days ago because of Covid they might not be allowed to light or have limited people. No final decision was mad at that time.
