Taking advantage of this cooler weather. Only supposed to get up to 95 degrees today. :) Have a sack of jumbo green peanuts on the boil and my little blower keeping me cool!

It has been a while since I have done some. I will have to show the kids. They don't know what that is.

Around here $5.00 to $7.00 a quart bag. Some folks a little more.

I’ve already boiled two sacks this year. Will likely do one more.
Pro tip: boil the peanuts for one hour before adding any seasoning, pull the basket and dump the water, refill with water to your boiling level and return to a boil, add seasoning then and return the peanuts to the pot.
No matter how “washed” your peanuts are, that water you dump after an hour of boiling will still be dirty as hell.

It will come out looking like sweet tea.
I cheat a little and use a pressure cooker for mine. I cover them with water in a big pot and put a strainer on top of them with something heavy sitting in there to make sure they are all submerged and soak them overnight. Dump them and wash them again, and about 30 minutes after the pressure cooker comes up to temp and the pressure indicator pops up. Then I kill the heat and let it cool down and depressurize. There's still a little bit of crunch to them, and none of them are slimy and soggy that way.

Pretty much the same but at the second boil, after adding the seasoning, kill your fire and just let them steep in the hot water for a couple of hours. Check them and if they’re not tender, it’s a quick boil to get them there. Saves a bit of propane. Will still need to soak until seasoned to your tastes.

Where do you buy your peanuts?

They're pretty easily found around SE LA when the big green jumbos are in season. Various produce stands, roadside, many supermarkets, even some individuals, who sell no other produce, will retail the jumbos in August and September. I bought these at a local produce stand. Most sell green by the sack, half sack or already boiled by the quart or gallon.
I've been boiling peanuts for at least fifty years. We used to grow our own. They're a lot easier to come by now days. I only fool with them when the jumbos come out.
