I just picked some up for the first time because the grocery was out of the Camelia brand.

They really are darker.

Any other differences?

They will work fine.

There are light red Kidney Beans and Dark Red Kidney Beans. Most of the time, they are labeled that way. IMO they taste the same.

I buy whatever is cheapest, usually generic.

No way you can tell the difference. Its a bean.

They both good so I go for the cheaper. I been noticing how clean they are now hardly ever pick out a dud or stone any more. what ever lazer thing they use to spot duds works good

Neither I

But Im sticking to Camelias.

This is a good pot of beans with Blue Runners but they are different.

Probably just a “what you’ve been doing your entire life and you’re mothers entire life kinda thing.”

True enough for special occasions and when feeling nostalgic I always reach for camelia brand they are the best ole brand.

The only difference in beans are the new crop beans, which are not dried, they cook quickly, but the final product is the same.

Can’t beat the 5 lb? Maybe 6? large bag of camellia red beans at Costco. Only $5.99 for that huge bag.

Clean and pick out beans

Last Camellia I bought had a pinto bean hiding in among the kidney beans. It probably went through a lot of trouble to get there, so I left it.

I used to laugh at the warning on the package about stones. Really? Then I found a damned stone in some dried beans.

The only difference I've found is freshness of the beans. I have traveled out of state on my motorcycle and visited with friends in other parts of the country and have been asked to cook some N.O. style red beans and rice and I'd sometimes get beans that have been sitting on the store shelf a lot longer than they do here.

It takes a fair amount of more time to make them cook enough to soften up and break up a bit.
