If I use one I use a Vinturi then decant. It’s only about 20 bucks and serves the purpose.

If you really want to get air pour the whole bottle into a blender and spin for about 15 seconds.

Most young wines being made today are pretty much pull and pour so just pouring into a decanter is sufficient since it gives more surface area that the bottle.

I have a vinturi as well. I think it works fine, but can be a little difficult if you're a couple bottles deep.

My daughter got me one of those things for Christmas. It's supposed to remove sulfides. It takes 15 freaking minutes to pour a bottle through the filter. I appreciate the gift and won't say anything to her but I'd rather just use my decanter.

Nah, it's most likely to much consumption of phenolic flavonoid radicals

What’s the difference between decanters and aerator?

Decanters is a large carafe that keeps the sediment out of your glass and helps to aerate the wine opening up the flavors and lessening harsh tannins. You'll leave it in at least 30 minutes, but ideally an hour or more.

An aerator is a device created to aerate the wine in a shorter amount of time. As in the time it takes to pour the glass.

I've found that aerators drastically change the flavor in a way a proper decanter does not. Almost like 2 different wines if you taste test them side by side.

And you'd use either of these for bolder cabs, syrah, barolo, etc not a light Pinot noir.

So I guess my next question is why do nice restaurants pour the wine straight to the glass if a decanter is so good?

They will if you ask them to. Normally they don't bother because it takes more time and most people won't know the difference anyway. Also if the wine is young, it won't have much, if any, sediment in it, which is the main reason to decant it.

Gotcha. I'll probably get a decanter and check it out.

I feel like the decanter says "I'm a refined adult and want people to see that I appreciate a better tasting glass of wine", while an aerator says "better wine is awesome but I'm looking to get shitfaced pronto"
