Milk Bar puts out some damn good sandwiches

I remember 5 or so years ago this place seemed to be all the rage. What happened? I never hear anyone say they are going there.

bunchy will clutch his pearls at any mention of a "tourist trap"

even if it is just a ham poboy with roast beef debris gravy on leidenheimer

damn right I'm pearl clutching. There are tourist traps that are that for a reason, ie they are pretty good. Mother's is not one of them.

The Ferdie is the single worst sandwich I have had in my entire life. I know I lend myself to hyperbole (...understatement) but I am being 100% serious when I say that. I absolutely hate that sandwich.

I am not going to wait in the line for it, and it is not my style of poboy, but Mother's ham is probably one of the best in the city.

The prices are what put me out off of it..at least 15 years ago.

That is a fair criticism and actually agree with that. Gerry Amato who bought the place from the old Landry Bros who started the place started doing that and really put the place on the map in the wake of the RNC in 1988.

Someone once cornered the Fat Bastard(Amato, I hated him) and told him that he was pricing the place out for locals. To Amato's credit he said he didn't care and that if he never got another local to spend there , that was OK with him. He's dead now.......actually went there about a month after his death and told the manager that now that Gerry was dead, I could in good conscience eat there.
