I don't know a damn thing about this Bear's place, but I'd be shocked as shite if any bar and brill type place that is putting out frozen precooked burgers , is actually roasting its own roast beef for poboys.

And if a place ain't roasting its own roast beef, the roast beef poboys will definitely be garbage.

They do roast their own beef. THe bread is real deal as well. Go give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.
While you're at it, try the cajun chhese fries as well

ETA: Afreaux, go try it! If you grew up in New Orleans it will bring back great memories of a real roast beef poboy

Well, can you name a better one then. The guy gave an opinion, you rip it, and then have no feedback

Never been to the one in Baton Rouge, but if their roast beef poboys are like the ones they serve in Covington. I agree, one of the best.

I've had bear's roast beef and it is ok, nothing special. Bear's gravy is pretty thin and get the bread soggy quickly. I like Brewbachers French dip better.

And for the best Roast beef poboy out there, its at Pirates Cove in Pass Christian.

I had one at Bears on Saturday while visiting down there and I enjoyed it. I would def get it again.

People who use words like "garbage" are not even worth listening to. They are so far to one side that they have no credibility.

The analysis above stating "gravy too thin" etc. is useful information and helps us decide for ourselves the basis of the opinion.

Yes. There is a huge difference in what I had and what I would call "garbage."

I don't mean that disrespectfully to you. I understand it is an opinion.

I just can't take your opinions seriously because of how you define garbage.

I said I'd never eaten there before and didn't know what they did, but that premade roast beef on poboys is garbage (if that was what they're doing). If it's not, kudos to them.

FACT: Bear's cooks their own roast beef every day, makes their own gravy from the drippings and ships in bread from Covington three-four times a week. They also make their own BBQ sauce and salad dressings.

I know a few people that work there and a couple of the owners. Just hate to hear all the slamming on the place all the time.... Glad to see the number people on here that enjoy their food is on the rise, anyone eat the crawfish there last week?

I would say Dempsey's and Past Times both are good.

I have never been to Bears so I really don't have a dog in this hunt. I do know that it is run by the Sangria people and that place was awful. I also hear the bathrooms are putrid and the service is horrible.

I will try the place the next chance I get.

I've tried Acme, Capital City Grill's, and several others and I haven't found one yet that beats Dempsey's.

That damn French Dip is ridiculously good.

I can definitely say that the roast beef po-boy at Acme is the closest thing in Baton Rouge to what I grew up on in New Orleans, though.
