The Lafayette food scene has gone so bad that Pops is considered one of the best Cajun restaurants and Tampicos is considered good anything?

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I prefer Old Tyme over Pop’s. Guess it’s because I like the simple fried shrimp and fried oyster poboys. Pop’s goes a bit more different, and is just like a much better Darrel’s for me.

As for my favorite Lafayette (or Lafayette Parish) restaurants, it depends on what I’m looking for. If I want delicious gumbo, the seafood gumbo at Chris’s on Fridays is damn tough to beat.

Overall, I like the variety and quality at Riverside Inn for seafood. Marcello’s does probably by favorite steak in Lafayette, and while I’m not a fan in general of Greek/Mediterranean food, it’s tough to beat the lamb chops and chili shrimp with pasta at Poseidon’s, coupled with the atmosphere and personal attention of the owner.

Agree, and it’s not even close.

I’ve tried Darrel’s several times based on this board and some friends’ opinions. Don’t really need to venture there again, not very impressed.

All three spots in Lafayette, plus Uncle T’s, have better poboys. And if I’m in Jennings and craving something poboy-ish, I’d rather drive the extra 10 minutes SE to Mermentau and get a fried shrimp poboy at C’est Bon.
