My recent go-tos when in town for lunch:
Rachael's Cafe - great lunch specials and menu with healthy options. Everything tastes fresh and made with love. Feels lighter too. First Thursday of the month is cow tongue over rice and on Fridays they make the best catfish courtbouillon in town served with thin strips of fried catfish. Good luck beating their meatloaf too (menu item). Cool thing about them is they're a great lunch spot but they open 5-8pm too. That's from the Hebert's Specialty Meats and Soop's bloodline, that.
Noah's Cafe: best variety of daily specials to choose from. You get huge portions and everything is stunningly good. Soul food. Oh you want smothered turkey necks and gravy but half over rice and half over mashed potatoes? Boom! Noah's got you.
Johnson's Boucianere: the specials, the menu items, the boudin. When they have the smothered potatoes and house smoked sausage over rice, I find a way to go. Same with the sausage and tasso sauce piquante. Even their basic Parrain Special (boudin stuffed grilled cheese with house bbq sauce) is tough to beat.
My favorite poboy spots are Pop's downtown or head just south of town to Villager's in Maurice (ate there today, excellent as always).

I like Poor Boy's Riverside Inn, and Bon Temps Cafe

You can't beat Olde Tyme's shrimp & oyster poboys. The meatball is also great, just get ready to make a mess of yourself. Today is Friday do yourself a favor and pick up the seafood plate, for under $15 it's hard to beat.

Growing up as kid Tampicos in Lafayette was the only mexican place we'd go to, hell I really don't even remember there being many other options back then(mid 90s) So even though there's other mexican places in town I like better we still go to Tampicos occasionally for the nostalgia, and their salsa is the best around. Back when Coyote Blues was really going I never though Tampicos would outlive them, yet here we are.

I would like it please.
Also, has anyone eaten at Hot Food Express on Cameron? I hear it's great, but I haven't tried it.
My vote goes to Judice Inn. Since Blue Dog flopped out, I have not had a specific favorite.

often times forgotten about, MG could easily be one of the top 5 dining places in Laffy
Food is seriously legit.
ate at ZEA 2 weeks ago for the ump-teenth time, food is consistently good with generous portions. Never experienced a bad meal at ZEA

That’s because Lafayette & south La in general doesn’t have the greatest Mexican food.
