Randazzos? Haydels? Both run about $50/king cake, including shipping. Is this what I should expect to pay? Any other places you suggest? TIA

You could probably get one a little cheaper from Rouses.
I say order the Haydel cake. It is a damn good cake and they put several mardi gras/La related items in the box.

I ordered from Randazzo's recently and it went really smoothly. Randazzo's seems to be the favorite everytime there's a king cake thread on the food board

I have always been a fan of Gambino's. Used to ship them to my sister in New Mexico years ago. Not sure what the price is now, but here is a link to their website:

Just FYI, the cream cheese filling is my favorite.

It really depends on the kind of cake you want..
If you want the more "traditional" king cake with sprinkled and colored sugar, go with Haydels. I've always found Haydel's cakes to be dry and don't care for them.
If you want a more moist king cake with an icing-type covering, go with Randazzo's.

I have had once sent to me in Arizona or Washington every year since I left south Louisiana. Like Lester Earl's mother, they arrive moist and delicious at my door step.

You can go pick up a king cake from Randazzos & The UPS Store has boxes that they fit perfectly in! Manny Randazzo's is off 17th St in Fat City & there's a UPS Store on Transcontinental/W Esplanade.
I've sent out 3 & stocked the boxes with items that I wanted in them & all for less than $35. All were delivered within 2-3 days (including the one to Virginia) unscathed & very appreciated
