She will have driven 500 miles, so the distance to Hymels or Robertos should not be a problem.

True, but they'll probably be tired. I've never had fried shrimp at Robertos but my past few experiences at Hymel's have been incredibly disappointing. Not worth driving 5 minutes for, much less 30.

Yes. There are differences in coatings, batter and frying. For example, a friend got a fried catfish plate at Copeland's advertised at "thin and crispy". There was nothing thin or crispy about the fish. It was heavily battered big chunks with uncooked gummy batter, barely golden brown with no crispiness whatsoever. Not worth eating so she didn't eat the fish.

There's plenty of underfried and overfried seafood out there in which case freshness doesn't matter.

It just seems like the usual suspects such as Chimes, Parrains, Mike Andersons and Acme and the such all have the same tasting fried seafood to me.

I love fried shrimp, and I think the ones at Mike Andersons are the best here in town.

Not sure if they're the best, but Sammy's has pretty good fried shrimps.

Typically not a dish that I order, but I did last week and it filled the spot.

Doe's has the best fried shrimp! I'm not joking. I have to order a dozen fried shrimp and we split a filet. They really are the best in Baton Rouge.

Acme & Mike Anderson's are pretty good, but I haven't been to either in awhile.

I've always been partial to the Chimes. They have a smooth almost buttery batter and I like the way they filet them. I also think there's a huge difference in the way different places fry shrimp. everyone has a noticeably different method. I don't agree at all with whoever said all Fried Shrimp pretty much taste alike.

I definitely want to try out Doe's now.

I think Acme is the most overrated seafood place in BR.

Still my favorite for fried seafood although it seems to not be as good as it was 10-15 years ago.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I think I will try Hymels or Robertos some other time.

She's never been to BR. I've never been to Parrains. So there you have it.

I will do a review and compare them to Captain Ds.

The seafood platter with fried shrimp, catfish & oysters at George's on G O'neal is delicious....Too bad the AC barely works and the place is disgustingly dirty and reeks of a stale grease smell that permeates your skin & clothing.

Could be a great place if Rodney “Smokey” Bourgeois would sink a few $$$ in the place and have Robert Irvine come in and revamp the kitchen and teach proper hygiene to the kitchen staff. I guess you don't want to know what goes on in a kitchen, but George's is kind of open to see in.

Doe's is on Government St. close to Acadian.

The shrimp are big, butterflied and delish!

Now I am craving them!
