Go the upper east side location on 78th and Lexington. It’s way less crowded and busy.
A pastrami sandwich, pickles, coleslaw, garlic fries, and a browns cream soda is usually my first lunch when I’m in NYC.

Just left Katz a couple hours ago. It was packed but line moved quickly.
We had latkes and pastrami sandwiches. Both very good.

I have never been to New York but Steins Deli on Magazine is good if you are in nola.

While I like steins as a deli in NOLA… the amount of meat these places use in NY could make 5 steins sandwiches.

not a diner per se ... but Veselka, the Ukranian diner has been a go to for 20 + uears.

Katz is one of the few places that lives up to its crazy hype and lines. Get the rueben with pastrami instead of corned beef. I think its the best sandwich i've had

More civilized than typical NY deli, but much better food is E.A.T at 1064 Madison Avenue. Owned by a member of the Zabar family that operates the famous food store on the West Side.
