Think that is one of those things, like jambalaya, that people tend to make at home. No one makes it like your mom did and that is what people tend to base their belief of what those two should be.
Went to that Niche place on Seigen the other day and what they offered wasn't half bad. Thought I remember The Chimes offering some that was worth mentioning.

Acme probably has it, but I've never had it there.

Dons Seafood used to a very good Etouffee. But I have not tried it in many years.

Chimes does a decent version; it's one of the few things I like there.

Is Poche's still doing plate lunches out of Boutin's? That would be me recommendation if so

1) Didn't we just have a thread about this?
2) Don't write off Piccadilly. Top off the experience with a pink drink and Honest-to-God blues piano from Henry Gray.

Other than my own personal recipe (my specialty), the best is definitely Piccadilly.
In fact my recipe is inspired by their version.

If Magnolia Cafe was still open, they had the best. IMO

Magnolia Cafe's was the same as Piccadilly and that is my recipe. Jim Malmberg ran Picadilly and left to open Magnolia.
I worked at Magnolia...and before I left I got the recipe :)
Magnolia Cafe's Fried Crawfish Etouffee was the bomb.

The Chimes and yes, Piccadilly have my favorite in town.
I was very disappointed in Poche's. Was ready to love it, and it wasn't my thing.

The Chimes w/ the buttered french bread and Brightside piled on top a piece of fried catfish.

Bellue's is another hidden gem.
