I worked with a guy from Guangzhou and he told me the cooks are Chinese and Omi is his favorite place in town. I believe him.

i dont get the love for Omi. I have had it twice and its just meh IMO.

I dont like crazy authentic dishes like a lot of you posters but 9 dragon consistently makes great dishes. I am always picking up so I stick with the two dishes that are always solid. You really cant go wrong ordering the amazing chicken. If you are looking for a noodle type dish, the Singapore chow mei fun is delicious as well.

Ahh, is it the same type of place with same food, or more traditional sit down restaurant?

I don’t think the original chef at Omi - the one who used to supposedly cook for the Emperor or whatever - is there anymore.

I do know that the chef at 9 Dragon Noodle House is from Chengdu.

Thanks to all for the recommendations. We were closer to Omi so we gave it a try. I could see where they could win the hearts of some but I will try 9 dragon next time.

The good news: If any of you cut grass, AC installation, waitress, clean or sell hot mustard, give them a call. They could use your services whether they know it or not.

Not going to say anything about the taste of the food as some people actually like overcooked cold food.

They could scale down and possibly move to a better location and possibly be successful. There was only one other table seated and the waiter was overwhelmed.

I see that you already went, but for future reference...the best Chinese in the BR area is probably Lee's Asian Fusion in Watson. Very fresh, seems quite authentic, owners and waitstaff are super helpful. No buffet. This is the only Chinese place where I will eat beef dishes, as they dont have the gristly little pieces with which so many others are cursed. All the chicken dishes I have had contain high quality, tender meat. It is out of the way, but worth the trip. Apparently, Chinese folks come from quite a way out of town to go.

I was once a Hunan acolyte, but was quite disappointed the last few times. I like PF Chang, but meh. Never been to Omi. I used to swear by Dim Sum, but the environs finally started bothering me.
