Because Veronica's husband was really into "news", I never got to know him. He would finish up his day job, come into the restaurant, turn off the beautiful music in favor of his newspaper and news channel. The entire atmosphere of the restaurant would change.

Charles Alexander once had a restaurant in the shopping center on the corner of Tiger Bend and Jones Creek.

Had a sporting goods store there. I do not believe he ever had a restaurant, at least not there. Used to go all the time.

I worked there in 96 97. It was owned by Greg and Don Davis who owned Calendars. Greg was an ex jubans waiter so a lot of us were Jubans Ex Pats including Chef William Wells. It was really good I thought.

This will get down voted to hell, but I miss On the Border solely for their salsa.

Is now George's.....Back in the day, the only places in that area of Jones Creek was Hi Nabor, Arabie Tire and a Frumbrussels candy outlet which was located in a building that was on George's parking lot.

You may be right. I'll check on it out of curiosity, but I still think he had a failed restaurant in that spot.

Europe's on Airline Hwy. had great food and that's where Anthony "RIP" of Anthony's Italian Deli got his start.

Interesting. I did not know that & grew up in that place as a kid.

My dad & grandfather would bring Lil ServOn over there to play "video games" while they had cocktails. Those video games were courtesy of Gov Edwin Edwards, and were actually the Video Poker machines right across from the bar through the saloon doors. Nobody questioned anything, just came and sat right next to me like it was nothing. I remember winning quite a few times too & my pops never would let me keep the ticket. he would hand it to the bartender and they would pay you right out of the register. Such awesome times back then.

Paul Leppadote (sp?) was the owner/chef that started Europes & leased the building from my family. Paul was one of the many chefs that Mrs. Fannie (The OG Village) brought over from Italy. when Mr. Paul eventually left The Village, he opened Europe's. Gofreddo Fraccaro (La Riviera in Metairie - another incredible restaurant) also was brought here by Mrs Fannie. Joey then took it over when Paul went back to Italy due to cancer. That is when I fell in love with cooking when I would sneak in through the back door and they would let me cook my own lunch. haha. Could not have been but 10-11 at the time. My first job was in kitchens because of Europe's. And I ended up working with Joey right up until he passed away. Our families were very close. Sad deal all around.

Amazing how many great restaurants in BR that the Distefano lineage produced:

The Village
Jack Sabin's
Jumelles
Joey's Steakhouse
Jack's Grill (Portabella's in Bocage)
Leon's Italian Kitchen
Frank's Little Italy
Mirror Steakhouse
Cipriani's
Friends & Co. (Catfish Town)
Europe's
Anthony's Deli
La Riviera (albeit Metairie)
