Are you looking for a "set" texture (firm, like a baked custard) or a creamier/softer texture? I like to make a pastry cream and fold in pureed fruit. it's not as jiggly as a custard, but it also has a much shorter shelf life.

Pastry cream sounds good.

There are still areas where Paula Deen is useful.

That sounds good, but I don't want to use the instant stuff. I'm a picky person cooking for picky people.

By all means I understand and admire your dedication. This is a quick one with the best results IMO.

I've had good luck with the recipe from Cooking Light. Doesn't use instant puddings or cool whip.

People always ask for the recipe and even my DH and my FIL who don't like sweets love this one.

First, plant the banana trees. It's going to take some time for them to bear fruit.

If you serve banana pudding warm, there is a special place reserved for you in hell. That is all I got.

As all 4 cheeks and a coupla chins.

I'm a fan of the Nilla Wafer pudding. It's also good with the crust made out of Oreos.
