How long does it last in a container in the frig. I have searched the internet and I get 6 months to it last forever. Is it obvious (smell) if it is bad?

The can in my fridge has been in there for several years(5 maybe?) and I still use it. No off smell. I keep adding more to it though, so maybe the grease at the bottom is bad. I don't know.

I was doing that but I would forget about it and just cook 12 oz of bacon. That grease was just enough for a roux. So I have a good amount of grease that is about 1.5 years old. It smells OK...I guess.

I don't even put mine in the fridge and it's going on 2 years or so. I'm constantly adding and removing, but it has never seen the fridge.

+1...keep my bacon grease on the counter in a mason jar next to the butter and the stovetop. I think as long as you do a good job of straining the bacon pieces out it would last about as long as you would need it to.

My container has been in the fridge for over 25 yrs. but as others have said, I’ve been adding to it and using from it in that time.

I freeze it. Just break off a chunk and almost instantly melts when hits hot pan.
