American single is a deal breaker. Shitty cheese makes for an ordinary burger.

Haha! Same for me.

If this Chicago place is better than the burger I had at Atchafalaya.....

No I am sure it’s not.

Atchafalaya has a good burger, but there are better even in New Orleans

It's a really good burger... thinner patty cooked on a flat top grill...

Sometimes i'm more in the mood for Kuma's though...

So they just buy local buns and use Kraft singles?

Yeah, it’s not the best burger in America. They apparently don’t even use real cheese.

Kraft Singles =/= American cheese.

Pretty sure cheese is not meant to be rubbery.

LINK ] Long, Good Read

I once had a long conversation with a food scientist discussing American cheese. She was cute and persuasive. She assured me it was real cheese. I believe her.

Page not found.

Either way, I didn’t say American cheese isn’t real cheese. I said Kraft singles aren’t real cheese.

By the FDA’s standards, Kraft isn’t permitted to refer to Singles as “cheese” because this word indicates that a product is made with at least 51 percent real cheese. This is why the label reads “pasteurized prepared cheese product.”

And I said American cheese is real cheese. I’m correct, too.

Me, personally, I wouldn’t even put it at the best burger in Chicago. I like Maillard’s and Bad Apple better.

So we’re just having two completely separate arguments then?

Hoops - I’ve got to go to Chicago for a couple days in July for work.

Definitely going to Girl and the Goat again, but I’ll have time for one more dinner. Where would you recommend?

American cheese is the best cheese for a burger. It’s a proven fact.

In particular, Velveeta imo.

I have been in too many packing houses to ever eat a rare hamburger. Steaks absolutely but not ground meat that has the bacteria mixed into the center.

Agreed. Ground meat is a while different ballgame.
