Blackstone is the largest, but probably worst brand in the market.
Anyone recommend another brand? The wife wants one to do fried rice and stuff.

Have you seen Blackstone threads on this board? They are vilified here.

The world’s first wood-fired pellet griddle lineup just got stronger with the new recteq SmokeStone 480. Built to elevate your griddle game, the SmokeStone features a smarter design and signature wood-fired flavor you simply don’t get with gas griddles. From breakfast and smash burgers to fajitas and hibachi, the SmokeStone 480 delivers bold, smoky flavor in every bite. Now with lid-down cooking, you get better heat retention, faster cook times, and deeper flavor when it matters most. Like every SmokeStone, it’s pellet-fueled with consistent temperature control that holds steady, so your results stay stable no matter what’s on the griddle. And when you load it up, the PID controller recovers heat faster than traditional griddles, keeping every cook on track. Built like a tank and featuring a pre-seasoned cold rolled steel cooktop, the SmokeStone 480 is ready right out of the box, no seasoning, no prep, no waiting. Better control. Better flavor. Better results.

Claims 600 and gets close to it. Can sear a steak on high heat and get a great crust.

Can it smoke stuff at 225?

No, low is 300, but if you look at some videos, especially the prior bigger ones, there is a guy from Lousiana that works for Recteq who does stuff like pork butts... youtube videos. have not tried it as I have other smokers.

Bruce Mitchell? He's a blackstone sponsor on youtube, cajun guy. His videos are good.

Consider how many times you will actually use it. Watch videos on maintenance of the griddle. I bought a blackstone and thought I’d use it all of the time. I haven’t used it in over a year.

Maybe because people don't know how to clean them? Ive had mine for 2 years and love it!

If they ever made one out of stainless or chrome lined steel, I'd buy one. I wouldn't use them frequently enough to keep the rust at bay.

I’m assuming you’ve never used one before?
But you say that one brand is the worst?

This! I might use mine twice a year. I prefer my grill for most everything.

I have the blackstone 36 for maybe five years now.
Regarding quality, they suck. Every few years I have to wire wheel it and knock off all the paint bubbles and surface rust. Then spray with rustoleum heat paint. Also the burners are uneven and you can see it in the griddle top. It's frustrating trying to cook when half the top is useless in an odd pattern.
Another thing to consider: how will you use it? If you have 4-10 mouths to feed regularly, it's a great idea. First few years we had it at a camp and used it regularly cooking for a extended family. It was briliant. Now its at home and we have three to feed and never use it. There is way too much work to carry all the food out back and clean the darn thing off and keep going back inside for things we forgot.
