Anyone here gluten free? If so, what's your reasoning?

I have really toyed with the idea a lot lately, but I am more nervous about giving up gluten than I was about going vegan.

I have Wheat Belly downloaded on my Kindle and I will be starting it in the upcoming weeks.

Opinions?

May I ask why you would do that?
Logical answers only please.

Celiac disease is an immune reaction to eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Over time, this reaction produces inflammation that damages the small intestine's lining and prevents absorption of some nutrients (malabsorption).

I have 3 friends that have gluten allergies. From witnessing on a consistent basis the limits they have on what they can eat.. not just because of their allergy but because of what restaurants offer .. I would NEVER choose to be gluten free.

I do eat a lot less bread now than I used to and I feel better because of it. Too many awesome dishes out there that have gluten for me to every 86 them voluntarily.

If you're doing it for weight-loss purposes I could see that being a good idea maybe for a couple months or something.

Celiac disease is a myth. At least it was with the one person I came across that claimed to have it.

She had plenty of gluten in the meal I made.

I would like to see if it helps clear my skin and if it would make me feel better. Although I don't feel bad, I am always striving to seek out the best fuel for my body.

Is this answer logical enough for you?

R2R, I agree. I already limit myself with things I can't eat (it seems others focus more on what I can't eat than what I CAN eat more than I do) so that's why I am hesitant.

I am doing research so I don't throw myself into something without being prepared. I tell people often not to set yourself up to fail and you won't.

From an experimental standpoint, yes, although I tend to think that you will feel better simply by a placebo effect.

There are people who need their diets to be gluten free; the majority of us don't, and it's pretty much a fad diet on the down turn.

Here's some info about the diet from the mayo clinic: LINK

It doesn't mention any effects of the diet besides treating celiac disease.

I watched Forks Over Knives a little over a month ago and the wife and I thought we'd try the plant based diet for a month for shits and giggles. It's been great and I really haven't missed meat at all. Eff those vegan cheeses and meat subs too, that shite is nasty.

Our whole family is gluten free, dairy free. We cut them out over a year ago because of a medical condition my daughter has.

It was rough at first, but I can almost make any dish that I want and have to be gluten, dairy free. The big drawback is restaurant limitations. Also, since July 2012, I have lost 25 lbs doing jack and my wife lost 15.

My mom claims it makes her feel better.

I don't buy it. I think many people are eating a pound and a half of pasta, feeling like shite, then blaming it on gluten.

Wheat will make you fart and shite and feel cramped up if you eat too much of it. It's not an allergy. I'm also willing t bet that most people going gluten free dont exercise enough and aren't properly digesting the amout of food they are eating.

I have Celiac Disease. Was diagnosed a few years ago after dropping down to 145. Less than I weighed when I graduated high school.
My intestines were so inflamed my body was not absorbing any nutrients and I was eating like a horse.

Now that being said, I can have some gluten here and there and it doesn't make me run to the bathroom, but as Celiac increases your risk for colon cancer I tend to stay away from gluten as I would like to not get cancer

not completely, been low carbing it to lose weight, I've realized I don't miss it and its not a nutritional loss.

Gluten free doesn't mean carb free. We have a ton of carbs in every meal that we eat.

Great idea. What you´ve got going on, and are planning to do, would be great to see, IMO.

Gluten is a man´s (those who are not ´celíacos´) worst enemy in the lower midsection (well, beer too, but who´s going to give that up, amirite?).

I wish you great luck, and keep us posted. Who knows, we may form FDB gluten free society.
