I'm stuck in Ruston one night this week. I don't think I have ever been. Is there anything decent at all?

Their food is terrible. Dawg House is way better. Other places that I like are Bristers or Sundown

Much appreciated. I'll be with a 7 year old so Ponchatoulas may be the way to go. But if I can convince him to eat a steak Beau Vines it is. Thanks!

If Thursday night Log Cabin has a guy coming in that does balloon animals and what not, good food and reasonable as well. For steak, yeah Beau Vines or Portico. If you want good pizza the downtown brewery Utility Brewery is good and one of my favorites. There's also a Rotolos. Breakfast is best at Champs downtown or the Grown and Grazed food truck by the railroad tracks, which is a good location as a bakery Uptown Downtown is across from it

Pizza/Italian: Utility Brewery, Roma, Rotolos, Johnny's
Steak/Variety: Beau Vines(so good, but $$), Portico(very good apps, steak, blackened red fish) Log Cabin, Dawg House
BBQ: Bristers, Hot Rods
Fried Fish: Port au Prince (25 min north on lake Claiborne, but worth it), Ole Feed House, Scott's Seafood, Pochatoulas
Coffee: Parish Press (serves beignets) Railway Coffee (downtown)
Breakfast: Champs, Grown and Grazed, Log Cabin

Those are most of the good local places. I know most of the owners/managers pretty well, all are family friendly. There are about 8-10 Hispanic places, most all ran by former soccer players of mine, but I figured you wanted something more Ruston.

Raw- one of the best sushi places I've ever been to is downtown

Sundown was my favorite place in town but they fired their kitchen manager and it's not as good now

Pontchtoulas is Cajun food in north la. if you're from south la, you'll be disappointed

beau vines is the best meal but if you want something more casual, rotolos craft and crust is new and good

log cabin is not good food. I don't understand the love this place gets

dawg house has good burgers

Best steak in town except for maybe Beau Vines. The meat is fresh straight from Tech Farms.

Sundown and Dawg House are pretty damn good for casual bar type places.

I was always meh on Portico. It’s good but won’t blow you away.

El Toro is pretty good. Way better than El Jar.

Raw is excellent if you’re feeling Sushi.

Utility opened after I left but I hear good things. I like the Craft in Crust in BR so I’d assume it’s the same there.

I had freinds that worked there in high school, unless things have changed this is not accurate.

The steaks aren't bad at Log Cabin, but I typically only get them from their market and take them home to Dr up and grill, very quality cuts. Everything at Beau Vines is good, but we usually go for Sunday brunch. I think kids eat free on Wednesday at Logan's
