people who really care about beer likely will. serious beer drinkers are the ones most likely to buy micro beer and they are also the ones most likely to pour it into a glass...so, going to cans won't really affect anything.

Link? This has largely been done away with since they went to can liners.

Everytime I have EVER drank a beer from a can I never had a liner covering my lips.. Do I need to provide a link to a person drinking a beer?

In no way shape or form am I talking about the can causing off flavors. But last I checked your lips sucking on aluminum does taste like aluminum.

an inferior beer (at least in comparison to the same beer out of a bottle) as it will impart aluminum flavoring into your beer while they drink

I don't buy this.

Oskar Brewing in CO doesn't either.

edit: I misunderstood what your point was. We posted at about the same time.

Didn't know my lips had the sense of taste.

Oskar Blues, Surly Brewing, Southern Star, Kennesaw all make the beer from a can argument inferior. All those beers, canned, are far superior to anything abita could put in a bottle.

Only if that salt then passes over your tongue.

Indeed they do. I've been drinking Dale's Pale Ale poolside for a few years now. Since you can't have bottles or a glass to pour beer into, cans of goof beer rock.

I suppose the "should only drink beer from a glass" crowd has never been to the pool, beach or in the yard with a lawn mower.

And your lips on aluminum does do the same thing.

I certainly cannot be the only person that tastes aluminum when I drink a light beer out of a can as opposed to a bottle.

There is no benefit of a bottle over a can at this point. People are just used to the perception that beer is better from the bottle. The breweries have to overcome this with marketing and education.

Actually quite the opposite, as 90% of the time I drink beer straight from a can. I wasn't clear and that is my fault. What I meant is in an ideal world, all beer, save that which is funneled, would be poured into an appropriate glass drinking vessel.

My post was more generic than directed at you in particular. I don't remember every poster specifically, but I don't recall overt snobbery from you.

And get some Dale's Pale Ale if you like that genre.

Why dont we have Champagne served in a can? Why dont people drink it straight from the bottle?
(ok why dont sober people drink it straight from the bottle)

Beer and wine share the fact that you get different characteristics when drinking it from different types of glasses.

For beer its just become accepted to drink straight from the bottle or can.

OK. The discussion is cans v. bottles (or at least my part of it).

If I am in a restaurant, I am getting draft.

75% of the rest of the time I am not at a place where drinking from a glass is an option.

Breweries are talking about the beer itself. In fact the beer from the can in most cases will be better than the bottle IF its poured into a glass. The act of drinking from the can alters the flavor of the beer. The can itself doesnt change the beer.

Like I said before if you are bud light or a large accepted brewery this probably will never affect you. However if you just started a brewery it should just be in your best interest to make sure people like your beer served appropriately to begin with.

Might have to try it. Usually that style is a bit too much for me.

But both NOLA and Abita have been around long enough for people to decide if they like the beer.

So the question is Bud Light in a can (and drank from a can, say on a boat) vs. NOLA Blonde in a can. I'll take the latter each time.

The only reason I dont dislike the bottle is that in the very least you get a consistent taste and glass will not do anything to make the flavor worse while you drink. But like I said some brews do suck if you drink from the bottle and need the open face glass to taste the way it was intended to taste.
