This thread is on Facebook.

Lot of butthurt people bitching about TD

Whatever. I trust the food board's opinion more than randoms on Facebook. Just look at what the people of BR voted for the Best of 225.

What a load of crap. I'd address each and every one of them. And, to heck with not stirring stuff up. I know I wouldn't be alone in backing you up over there..

Perhaps they were offended that they had to write down their order because in this day and age they don't know how! Lol.

LOL. No, chick. They were offended because when they started to order, the checkout girl gasped in complete and utter shock that someone on their first visit didn't already know they were supposed to take their own order.

If that's part of your "charm", fine. But understand that you're getting new business (which is a great thing) and you might have to accommodate someone who is unaware.

Tiger Droppings is nothing but a gigantic rumor mill and is aptly named because it is full of droppings. Stay above the fray and don't dignify the ridiculous comments with a response. In business nearly 70 years...that says it all. Keep doing what you're doing, making the best pizza in Baton Rouge!

Donna, It wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that people have been writing down their orders for 69 years. It is what allows us to handle a large volume. Can you imagine the line of people if we had to write everyone's order, one at a time? Maybe that person thinks we should change something we have always done just to accommodate their laziness. I'm sure they know how to write. Customers writing their own orders is a unique little quirk that makes up the personality of the Pastime.

Calling your customer lazy. Real professional.

It wasn't about writing it down (although I still think it's absurd), it's the way the girl flat out refused to take the order we told her. Obviously, we have never been here and didn't know.. you're wasting more time and being less accommodating by gasping in shock at my and insisting I write it.

In all my time working in the service industry, I would go out of my way and do things that may not have been the "norm" to make a customer comfortable.

We had to chase someone down just to pay for our stuff and we STILL gave a $5 tip on a $10-$15 cheese pizza. So calling the customer lazy when they did all the work and then tipped you is ridiculous.

FWIW, I agree that the internet has caused a lot of restaurants to get bashed undeservingly, but this is TD.. Not Yelp. We aren't rating the place and telling randoms to never go. We always talk on here when we have bad experiences and awesome experiences. In fact, we praise restaurants more here than on a normal "review" site because most people on those sites only register when they have bad things to say.

Wait that's an actual employee with that condescending attitude?

Read through the FB postings. Funny.

Would say that I will go to Poor Boy Lloyds everytime over Pastime. However, I'm not a nostalgic baby boomer that remembers my class reunion being there for the last 50 years.

Oh my! That Facebook posting is so bad that it's almost funny in a sad sort of way. I'll remember to read the FAQs on the website before I eat there if I ever eat there again. Are you kidding me? How about a non rude response to someone who asks for extra gravy? Or, I guess she could have said "Didn't you bother to read our FAQs on the website before eating here?"

The disclaimer is really funny. It's a public page for crying out loud.

And, I suppose if you're a first timer at Pastime and don't know the 69 year old drill of writing down your order on the scratch pad, you're just lazy and shouldn't bother going there.

Asking his customers how to handle the matter is another interesting saga in that long post. It's a little late to have the option of leaving it alone with that novella on Facebook. I didn't read it all. It was easy to pick out the snippets of silliness.

Had he not addressed this on Facebook, this thread would have moved on to page 2,3 etc... I read it yesterday and didn't think much of it. It's Pastime. I wouldn't expect too much there. It's not fine dining. Now, it's interesting in a very funny way.

ETA: Usually, when a restaurant owner or manager gets wind of a report on TD, we see a very nice amicable mature response from someone who cares about customers and not his own thin skin. Makes you want to give the place business. This response is just laughable. Pastime is nostalgic to me and that was a reason to go there. Don't think I'll revisit that memory again, though.

Yeah, managers/owners really should learn from others when it comes to internet reviews. Arguing back and personally insulting your customers is not the way to win their patronage.

I actually love thin/greasy pizza, but the pizza I had was bland and the cheese didn't even stretch when you took a bite. It was odd. I hear the Boudin one is good, but now I have no plans to find out.

Baton Rouge drives me insane with this. SO MANY mediocre places thriving just because of nostalgia.

Look at the Best of 225 awards.

When a place is referred to as a "landmark" or "tradition", I immediately expect mediocrity.

No doubt, have seen owners/managers respond on here many times with explanations and apologies.

Also, it seems sort of hypocritical to take to social media to bash TD/posters about them taking to social media to bash his restaurant.

I agree with everything you just said.

I feel the same way. When I see a manager/owner sincerely apologize for a poor experience and ask the customer to give them another chance, I'm always impressed and it makes me want to visit.

People that are looking to eat out are not looking for restaurant advise from tigerdroppings.com. We are looking at yelp, google maps, opentable, groupon etc. and we know that not everyone is going to put a good review. When I look at reviews, I just look for trends.

I've been to Pastime twice, simply because the boudin pizza sounded intriguing. I'm all about retro/throwback places; I love the old-school feel of places like that, like you've been transported to the past. Unfortunately, the pizza was some of the blandest, most nondescript pizza I've ever eaten (seriously, what's up w/ that crust?). After my first visit, several years passed, yet I continued to hear people praise the place, so I decided to give them another chance. Big mistake. The pizza was the same bland crap that I'd had on my first visit. My only conclusion was that the fans of this place are primarily people who like it for nostalgia purposes and have fond memories of eating there when they were growing up. That being said, I don't think that many adults who have never been there before and who didn't grow up eating there would think it was very good.

And funny how Smiley compares Pastime to Mother's -- another totally overhyped garbage place

The thing is.. I trust y'all WAY more than any of those places listed. The posters here praise restaurants all the time. The best meals I've ever had were suggestions from here.

The posters here care about ingredients, food quality, atmosphere, etc. so much more than the average person, and it yields great suggestions.

This website is the last place people go and completely bash a place over a one time slip. Heck, the OP of this thread is not even that bad. He said he had a bad experience. He didn't say "NOBODY RETURN!"

Fleur-De-Lis has an excellent pizza and is another Baton Rouge Landmark with a strong history and loyal customers. I respect them as well as other long time Baton Rouge restaurants such as Poor Boy Lloyds, Dons, Anthonys Italian Deli and so many more. Its a hard business and tier longevity speaks volumes

As reference, tried Breck's Bistro on your rec. I guess just another example of how posters here lack social skills and rip apart restaurants.

I hope the manager doesn't read many reviews on any of the online sites that might not be complimentary of the place. After reading that post and a few of his responses in the comments, I'm not sure he can take it emotionally. I've just never seen anything like what is written on Facebook. I'm somewhat stunned. It's like watching a train wreck as it happens. I have a feeling that FB post disappears at some point. Surely, someone who is his friend will give him some good advice to take that down. Seriously.

I thought of Beauxnes just now. Can you even imagine him writing something like that after reading a bad review of any restaurant with which he's associated? Defensive responses just don't go well in cultivating new business and good will and keeping it.

It was one post and a few thereafter who don't like the place. You won't please 100% of the people in any business. Look at those unfavorable reports and determine whether the matter could have been handled differently, learn from it, decide whether any action should be taken to recoup the customer or move on. Geez...
