4th annual Red Stick Roux Rally next Saturday 2/4.

Heads up for those interested in coming out this year. Great event and with the Mardi Gras balls also starting that evening and some good weather, it should be a great day downtown.
Admission will be $10 and all proceeds go to Youth Oasis. Chase Tyler and Flowtribe will be performing as well.

So I've never been to one of these before. How much gumbo do you actually get to eat? As much as you want? How big is each serving?

It's a small cup maybe 4oz or so. There will be 40 teams so that's a LOT of gumbo if you hit them all. And there's plenty to eat more than 1 sample if you want to. I promise you won't leave hungry.

I've never been. Is it a good place to take kids? Assume if you show up at 11:30 or so most if not all teams will be serving?

Yes great for kids. They have the water fountains and the big lawn to hang out in front of the stage if you want to bring a blanket and sit down picnic style. There will be plenty of gumbo and some teams are cooking other dishes. Beer and other drinks will also be sold.
