Another summertime closing. Feelings opened in 1979 - good run.
Feelings Cafe in the Marigny has closed

Pretty awesome building...something will take its place.

From the article it looks like something is in the works. Deal hasn't been finalized yet.

What’s with the recent and frequency surge of these restaurant closings?

Always closings in the summer since that's when dining drops off a ton.
I think we have hit that critical point where there are too many restaurants to support and the rents have gotten too stupid expensive.

Cafe B is the biggest shocker to me. Was always packed when I went. Killer happy hour and not much else on the Old Metry border.
Adelaide next because that's prime for the convention crowd.
Never set foot in Heritage.

Way too many restaurants. There are currently around 1500 and the day before Katrina hit there was like 750. If I recall correctly.

I think lease is the tops for most if it was an established business.

Agreed. Makes you wonder who is going to be the next one to close down.

Does anyone have the comparison to how many were around 5 years ago vs today?
Would be interesting to see if the market is at saturation and just dropping restaurants as it picks them up.

That would be interesting. A 5 year sample size would be a good indicator.

Comparing before Katrina and after is possibly the worst idea, but 10 years might also be too far.

I just don’t recall so many closings that seem to be on a weekly basis. Some of them have been surprisingly popular ones.

Fad restaurants in most cases. Not really that surprising. Different market compared to the generational restaurants that New Orleans had in the past.
I don't expect somewhere like TatW or The Vintage to have decades long staying power.
