Central grocery muff and a barq's is my last meal on death row special.
does it still count if am partial to a muff and a bud in a can, sitting on a bench by the river? they don't sell Abita root beer do they? i just don't like barq's anymore.....just a HFCS like all the others now.

You must not have a waiter or personal charge account at either establishment. It is like Rao's in NYC, you are in or you are not in. Enjoy eating at Outback.

and TA, i know it's not stereotypical New Orleans like many picture but how close was Mimi's in the Marigny to making your list?
A fairly early dinner (before the crowds) there is actually my favorite dining experience in the city. the chef is always excited when a patron gives him control, and brings out the food himself, very laid back but efficient service, and usually a very good old time jazz singer or the type playing. It was the single most pleasant surprise at a restaurant i have had in the city. Oh, and it's really affordable too with zero pretension. Two things i really, really appreciate. I'm so thankful that many leading chefs are now pursuing the more laid back, simple, but refined approach to great food.

You can walk next door to that beer market...they literally sell about 80-100 beers in bottles (and they will give you a to-go cup).

I love mimi's...it really is a great experience. I don't go there enough honestly...perhaps that is where I will bring some friends Friday at 5pm...that would be a great place to pass some time.

but my problem is once i have muff in hand i simply can't make anymore stops before eating. I am usually spilling olive salad down my shirt before i even cross decatur.

Valid point...that is why I rarely take the sandwich to the riverfront...a good portion of the sandwich won't make it.
I say this every time, but I am trying their stuffed artichoke next time.
I had Nor Joe's recently, and it was good.

Yeah u could probably do a top 100 list and still have a tough time pairing it down! A few more places that would probably be in the top 25..Jack Dempsey's and Elizabeth's in the Bywater and LaPeniche over in the Marigny.
Off the beaten path and worth visiting imho.

I will get myself fired if I go down that path.

West End area pre-katrina....
Although "The Dock" was as cheesy as it gets and the food wasn't very good, they had a great bar overlooking the lake.
And even though Jaeger's food was overpriced, I loved getting the buckets of beers and sitting on the lake. In between beers you could go into the arcade and play all the old coin games from the '80's that would make you feel like you were at Chucky Cheese on Airline Hwy circa 1985.

Am I the only one here who isn't impressed with muffs from Central?

BLASPHEMY!
Hey, it's your tastebuds...if custom fresh baked bread with homemade olive salad with every single meat and cheese on the sandwich imported from Italy...in the place that invented the sandwich itself isn't enough for you...then so be it.

Never actually went inside The Dock, but I'm glad someone confirmed its cheese factor.
I wish there was a place anywhere in the city where you could still play the 80's video games - I wouldn't care how bad the food is!

are you impressed with muffs from elsewhere. If not, then that makes sense....you just don't like those flavors. no big deal.
