By all means, let's get those prisoners out of harms way.
Not one word about levees in and around Vidalia.

If you've noticed on your way out here to Caroline....there's a neighborhood named Ashbrooke. I can't believe how many dang LSU fans live in that neighborhood...and it's a large subdivision! I hate riding over to my Ole Miss friends house during football season, because it looks like you're in Baton Bouge;-((
You sure do have a good memory! Yea it is beautiful out there. I'd love to move out there after graduation
Sorry for the hijack guys....

What's the story on northern avoyelles in any of these scenarios? Effie, Bunkie, Marksville... Etc
effie and moncla has a potential of flood. marksville amd bunkie will be safe. neither town flooded during '27 so they will be safe. spring bayou, Brouillette, and behind the levee in bordelonville are fricked. LINK

If opening the BC spillway doesn't alleviate pressure upstream, then how did opening Morganza in 1973 help save the ORCS from failing?
morganza can handle 600,000cfs of water per second
bonne carre only handles 250,000.

I work for myself.
I have been a persistent critic of the USACE for 30 years, but this time they got it right. Maj.Gen. Walsh, Commander of the Lower Mississippi Valley Division, and Maj.Gen. Peabody, Commander of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Divison, did everything earthly possible to not activate the Birds Point New Madrid Floodway. I am stunned that the order was not issued a week sooner.

okay, Mississippi people. I need some advice. Have reservations at a B&B in Natchez for May 11 & 12. It is located near the Natchez City Cemetary (pretty dang high off the river). Do I need to cancel? Will all of Natchez be shut down? M-I-L in town from Wisconsin -- want to show her some plantation homes. Thanks.

Natchez will be fine it's anything on the louisiana side of the river. And a few places around Natchez that are lower, but nowhere you would be going anyway. So Id say your fine.

Be sure to hang around for a little while to see Vidalia get swept away

Is that the one on the bluff? No flooding there, for sure. Not sure about erosion of the bluff.
I'm sure you're in good shape, but give them a call just to be sure.
You'll get a great view of any flooding, that's for sure.

The only part on the Natchez side that is affected by the river is the casino and businesses under the hill. The B@B and rest of Natchez will be fine. Natchez is built on a bluff that is way above the level the river will reach.

So I see BR is still expecting a crest of 47.5 but no one has addressed why the flood warning was removed. Are they thinking that opening Morganza will alleviate the problems?
Also wouldn't opening Morganza essentially sweep Morgan City away? They are already looking at 9.5 for crest. That's high enough.

Well, they're closing the casino Sunday.
I was looking forward to that at night.
Thanks for answering. And I really don't want to see anything get destroyed by flooding. Have seen enough of that with Hurricane Ivan over here, and Katrina.

There is a reason Natchez is one of the oldest settlement on the Mississippi River

From what I can see, we are still in fact under a flood warning.
