Shoot to kill. Dead men tell no tales and it will be a one sided story If someone breaks in and you are inside it wouldn't be too hard to claim fear for your life. However if you come home and the door is kicked in and you enter it will be a bit harder. Pretty much the way our concealed carry class explained it.

Whats the difference between deadly and lethal force?

Deadly force is where I hit you in the head with a pipe. It might kill you, or it might not.

Lethal force is where I put a .357 magnum to your temple and pull the trigger. It is going to kill you.

I am not sure that this distinction makes any difference at all, but that is the difference.

Whoever taught you that has no business teaching any class. Please God tell me that he was not a lawyer. If he was, I would be very, very careful about following his advice.

I hope you have enough money to pay the civil judgment.

Whether you kill him or not, you are exposed to a civil judgment.

The scenario is them kicking in my door, not them rummaging the shed.

It amazes me that people think home invasion is such a threat that you need 3 loaded guns ready to protect yourself. Maybe if you live in the projects, but seriously. Someone in your family is much more likely to get hurt by the loaded shotgun and the 3 glocks you have hidden around your house. I'm a gun owner but I'm not gonna kill someone because they want to take a tv or something

What if you live a couple of miles from the projects?

I will say that no one here knows how they will react in such an instance until it actually happens to you.

I recently returned to my house one evening to find my door kicked in and unwelcome guest inside.
The gun in my bedroom did me no good when I was outside and they were inside.

All I will say is I got the best of the first one of them (I did not know there was 3 inside.) Although eventually they all got away. Got away with nothing that is.

I agree and hope that it never happens to us, but that's not to say that I expect myself (or anyone else) to react as a panicked coward if something happens or that I won't prepare as if it could happen.
I know what you're saying (and I'm sorry that people broke into your house), but I think there's a popular tendency to underrate an untrained person's ability to respond to a deadly threat. Maybe with no training you won't respond efficiently or effectively, but that doesn't mean you won't fight.

This is true unfortunately. There was a woman in Old Goodwood several years ago who shot and paralyzed a would-be rapist. She was sued because her attacker, a construction worker, could no longer work. I don't know how the case ended up.

Agree

Disagree. I'm shooting them if they're in my house. How do you know that all they want is your "tv or something."

this needs to be changed. its out right bullshite that you cant use deadly force to protect your property unless your life is being threatened.

I grew up with a single Mom in rural Tensas Parish (if that is not redundant). We got robbed one time while we were out. I distinctly remember our sherrif, Bill Poe, coming to the house after we were robbed and telling us that in Louisiana, you can't shoot someone who is trying to rob you if they are not in your house and you are scared for your life. He then gave my mom a gun and told us that if someone is trying to rob us and not in the house, shoot them and drag them into the house.
