Sandbags to cover the leaks.

i think any breech of the levee is a problem. Sanbags prolly the best short term solution. I'm just wondering if they'll remeber to fix them so we're ready next year.

That is pretty much the tried and true method. Sand boils occur every spring, or just about every spring.

but does the COE ever go back and try to "fix" them or are they innocuous occurences?

If flood water under pressure blends with ground water the sand boil may be temporarily "fixed" but be a "latent" boil waiting to happen again. The path through the sand can come from old river deposits deeper underground than the levee.

Quick explanation here:

They are a seasonal problem that we have been able to maintain. There is no economical approach to fixing them yet

Lets see.

Lets bring in the bulldozers and backhoes and tear down the levee, cut the foundation deeper and rebuild it to repair the sand boil.....

Oh wait. The water is 5 feet from the top of the levee...........

At this point all you have is band aids. What else are you going to do??

and what if the boil is through sand deposited 2000 years ago 100 feet down?
