How did your auction turn out last night?

i told myself i wanted to be conservative after watching our draft the night before.

I wasnt sure it was going to play out like ours, but it kind of did. A lot of WR and QBs went for good prices later in the draft. But i didnt have any money left to really nab any of them. I wanted to be sure i got some good players and wasn't just stuck with those guys.

i finished with

Tom Brady- $61
Brandon Marshall $36
Percy Harvin $31
Antonio Gates $23
Blackmon $15(got stuck bidding up)
Ced Benson $12
D. Bowe $22

Turbin
Leshoure
Kyle Rudolph
Hardesty
Rod Streater
Tebow
Alfred Morries
Alshon Jeffery
Joique

all went for $1

14 team league. My RBs suck but i have an extra WR i can deal for someone half way decent.

I did a good bit of price driving last night without getting caught.

Yikes, yea u definitely need to make a move for a RB. Can probably flip Bowe or Percy for. serviceable RB2

I too had a 14 team auction. I started off real slow, cleaned up on the middle, & finished w/ 7 $1 players. Also got stuck bidding up Ingram... Oh well at least I have a high priced handcuff for Sproles..

The biggest thing I've learned is if you create a budget, STICK TO IT. I budgeted $55 for a QB in our league and ended up going $2 over. If you disregard $2 here and there, it can keep you from playing in the bench rounds. But I valued Rodgers highly.

Panicking and spending $5 over my RB2 budget, cost me grabbing a budget WR.

yup...use your budget as the bible. If you come in under budget at a position, add that to your bench budget.

It's hard to stick too when everyone is aggressive and trigger happy. I think it's important to lock up 1 stud

Between that and trying to pick over players I want to avoid, it's tough

I did not have a budget. Getting the auction going threw me off.

There were actually more issues last night but the night before helped out big time.

Yea. Thats why if you looked at my sheet, I had values associated with rounds in a standard draft.

I like to make sure I'm landing at least one guy in each of those dollar levels.

You aren't going to win a league with 4 or 5 4th-5th rd guys, IMO.

then of course you have people like SFP driving up prices & stockpiling QBs.

Oh well, he probably shoulda been more worried about his own team than fricking over the rest of us.

My plan was to grab a stud at each position. A guy that you know will produce every week. I wanted Cam, AJ Green, and Sproles. Murray wasn't in my plans but considering where all of the other RBs in his tier were going I got good value IMO. I gambled on TE and was lucky to get Daniels at 1.00.

I sort of agree and disagree. Yea you need to have a budget, but it has to be very flexible. You almost need several budgets.

If Elite RB's are going high then there will probably be more value later in the draft, whereas if they aren't going as high then the price point will probably flatten out for the tier 1 and 2 RB's meaning you will get superior value with the tier 1.

Value is created at different price points at different positions for every draft. Being able to recognize that is the key. Also have to know what your opponents have on the roster already and how many players are left in a tier. If i see joe has no RB's and there is only 1 Tier II RB and its a pretty big drop off, i know i can bid him up. The same applies that i don't want to be caught looking for a player when he is the last player in a tier as i will likely have to pay for him.

This happened with stafford last night, but i came in under budget for my WR1 and RB1 so i didn't mind paying extra. I ultimately came in only 1 dollar over my planned budget after I got my QB1, RB1, and WR1.

I'm going to learn that the hardway. I regret not looking up a good quarterback.

i used the 2nd part with the values, but they weren't accurate to my draft. so i stopped glancing at them really.

I placed a bid on damn near everyone. Once it got to the point where i didnt wanna pay that price, i backed out. Got some good players doing it that way, and at decent prices.

Absolutely, and I was ready to adjust if I didn't land Rodgers. Especially since Stafford emerged at $40.

I would've adjusted my spreadsheet to account for that $17 windfall. At that point I could've landed a great WR like Julio.

I agree with what barry said.

for instance if there is a RB on the board that i like that is being driven up, and the ones left I dont really like, yet I know they will be high bids, I am not going to stop bidding on the guy i want. Because its almost worst to be stuck with a player you dont trust than to be stuck with a player you had to pay a little extra for.
