Older posters: Is it just me or are injuries RIDICULOUSLY more common than pre-2000's?

I don't know if I just don't remember all the injuries, or if fantasy football has made me notice it more (I'm pushing 40), but I swear it seems like concussions and major, multiple game/season ending injuries are pretty much a weekly deal across the league.

Probably because they refused to admit concussions were a thing

There's just more coverage and fantasy football has people wanting more specifics on injuries. ACL injuries used to just be a blown out knee and career was over. That's my opinion at least. Better TV coverage too. More access by sideline reporters.

It feels like that has to be it, but I would be curious to see the actual statistics on it. We know that medical treatment, especially for things like ACL repair has improved, so I would think just from that that time out from injury would have improved.

I think injuries have gone up since each position has gotten bigger and faster.

Don't feel like digging up the stats though...

They also didn't used to have all of the restrictions in camp and it seems like these players arent coming into the season in football shape. I know that's been discussed on the sports talk shows. Another thing to remember is these guys are MUCH bigger and MUCH faster than 20 years ago. Sure, you may have had one game per 4 teams that was 6'4", 240 running a 4.5. Now, every team has one if not 2.

Feel like the game is also more spread out and guys these bigger , faster guys are playing in more space than 20 years ago hence more stopping, starting, pivoting

concussions

Well this is a huge point of emphasis now. It used to be that they would snap their fingers in the guy's eyes, give him some smelling salts, and put him back in after he got rocked. Now they're required to go through the protocol, which can take weeks depending on the situation.

So, I don't think guys are getting concussed more, but they're treating them more like an injury when they never used to do that.
