Is Austin Ekeler the #1 for Chargers?

Anyone?

Can someone explain why he is not higher? I would have thought he would be higher than where he is.

Probably due to a new QB: Tyrod Taylor or Justin Hebert

Captain dump off is gone I'm assuming.

Tygod target lesean Mccoy an avg of 68 times per year in three seasons as the starter in BUF with a high of 77 targets in ‘17. Checkdowned nearly 10% of his passes
Chargers threw 600 times last year. They down have the pass catchers for Ekeler not to see 80 targets minimum

I chose Mixon & Adams at pick 10/10. If it hadn't been a Keeper league, I would have grabbed him. Luckily, I had Henry in the 6th from the former year.

Tyrod didn’t have Keenan Allen, Hunter Henry, Mike Williams in Buffalo. And that is assuming Tyrod is QB all year.

Yeah I drafted Henry and Eckler in the first two rounds. I feel like I have the best RB duo in the league although my WR’s aren’t as strong.
Seems like Kelley is getting pumped as Eckler’s backup, right?

I did the same. Ended up with Thielen, DJ Moore, AJ Brown, Kirk, and Jeudy at WR. I'm okay with it.
Zeke/Mixon
Cook/Jones
Chubb/Sanders
A few other duos in my league. I still don't think I 'd trade for any of them.

And this is exactly why he will be heavily targets in the pass gams

I don’t understand. How does having more options in the passing game equate to consistent targets for a rb? Wouldn’t it be the opposite? More options at wideout means less opportunities for rb?

All the targets are going to be heavily concentrated to those 4 guys. They have zero WR & TE depth past Williams, Allen, and Henry and they have 21% of their targets from last year up for grabs
Ekeler has more targets total and per game than both williams and Henry the last two seasons. He only played 35% of the offensive snaps in ‘18 and 56% of offensive snaps last season

Those may be valid points. But I was confused on your reasoning that since Tyrod Taylor checked down 10% of the time in Buffalo, that meant 80 targets for Eckler.
At 600 passes for Chargers that’s only 60 attempts. plus many more options in LA than Buffalo.

That 80 targets and 10% are approximations. Add in screens and swing passes and you're right in the area of what he was saying Ekeler would see.

If Ekeler gets 50 targets on checkdowns, he's easily going to eclipse 100 for the season. They scheme 3-4 receptions a game for him as the primary, and this is conservative.

The stat doesnt mean Ekeler was going to see 10% of the pass attempts this season bc Taylor checked down 10% in BUF. A checkdown does not encompass every target. A checkdown merely means he dumped off to his last option when no one else is open. The guy mentioned Rivers being captain checkdown, but taylor was top 10 in checkdown %. It just means extra looks
Many more? No. Watkins, Woods, Clay, Goodwin etc. Those greg roman offenses in Buffalo were top 3 in rush attempts during Tyrod's tenure. There really isnt a apt comparison to make there

You referenced 2017 buffalo bills. Those guys weren’t there. Maybe Clay. Doubt anyone on the team had 40 receptions other than Lesean. Much more competition for catches in 2020 chargers than 2017 Bills.

You have some upside with those receivers. After Henry and Eckler, I got Thielen. Rest of my WR's: Kupp, Boyd, Clayton, and Sammy Watkins in the 15th.
Hoping the power RB duo will hold off the up and down weeks of Thielen and Kupp.
