Drafting 1.2 - is it dumb to try to get Kelce and Mahomes 2 of the first 3 picks? (PPR)

I’m trying to do the math based on last year’s #s and it seems like it’d be pretty hard to beat that.

I feel like I’m being stupid so someone please explain why

Drafting Kelce that early isn’t completely retarded, but drafting Mahomes that early might be

Gonna be hurting for RBs if you go that route

Kelce goes T6 in PPRs

Getting both means you will have to cobble together your RBs and WRs week to week, though.

The biggest risk here is not getting Mahomes at 2.11. Not getting the stack would put you significantly behind.

I pick 5th (out of 12) and have done 10+ mocks....I have only been able to stack Kelce and Mahomes once. Mahomes is usually gone in the first few picks of the 2nd.

I don’t like how my teams end up when I draft TE AND QB within the first four rds. One of them works. But not both. You will be at a big disadvantage at either RB or WR…and you better be right with all those picks

Well in this case it's a stack, so a bit different.
While that's more of a best ball and DFS thing, numbers show it's an advantage in managed teams as well

Mahomes always goes top 5 picks in my league. 12 teams and every year someone just can’t help themselves. As soon as he goes then it starts a run on QBs. It’s infuriating. But I’ll take it!

Grab mahomes early 3rd if you really want hime he may be there. If not then grab another player and you should start out with 3 great players and can always grab another qb stack if you wish

I ended up with Kelce and Hurts inside top 4 rounds. I like my backs but my receivers probably have a “good not great” ceiling as a group.

Backs: Pollard, Walker III, Akers, Montgomery, Penny
WR: Ridley, Mclaurin, Gabe Davis, JSN, Johnston, Hyatt, Mingo

2 RB, 2WR, 2 Flex can start

What’s the rest of your team look like? How big of a league?

10 or 12 teams? I think getting Kelce and a top QB (doesn't have to be Mahomes) in the first 3 picks can work well in a 10 team, but leaves you scrambling in a 12+ team.

I did this in one league. Didn’t plan for it, but the opportunity ended up presenting itself. My team is definitely weaker at RB and WR, but is it worth the difference? You can be the judge. I like my chances at finding mid and late round value

12 team PPR, 3 flex
QB - Mahomes
RB - Dobbins
RB - Montgomery
WR - Metcalf
WR - London
TE - Kelce
Flex - Hollywood Brown
Flex - Brian Robinson
Flex - Juju

Bench:
Gus Edwards
Gainwell
Chark
Van Jefferson
Bateman

Your RB are better than they should be for doing what you did.

I wouldn’t feel great about that team. Getting Mahomes and Kelce looks sort of sexy but you have to sacrifice too much value to make it happen. I like getting Kelce mid- first, but then I’m hitting WR hard the next two rounds before I even think about QB. Much rather have Fields or Herbert in round 5 and load up on WR/RB rounds 2-4 after nabbing TK in the first.
