They could’ve just kept Carlos Hyde if they were interested in backup insurance
While true, McCoy is much better than Hyde at this point regardless of role.

Exactly
There’s a slew of available RBs that could fill a backup role like Hyde that doesn’t cost $3 mil if that’s what they’re interested in.
I think Reid is gonna take McCoy for a test drive early on. If you’re a Williams guy you only hope that McCoy doesn’t have it any more

Just to shed a little light on the money:
McCoy was also being courted by the Chargers and other teams. Chiefs had to pay up to get him. They know the market is tight for RBs with experience that can catch and pass protect. They went out and got him at market price
Williams signed his contract on 12/27. He had exactly 36 carries and 19 catches with 5 total TDs at this point after Hunt had been cut. He hadn’t finished the season yet, and he had yet to have his two big playoff games. Then he came out and totes the rock 25 times in the first playoff game with 5 catches and a TD. Then second game he scores 3 TDs. He and his agent made a bad move and signed too early. Nobody knew he’d be a stud in the playoffs and he signed too early for small cash
Judging this situation by money doesn’t make sense with the above. Judging by stats doesn’t either, McCoy is 31 and has played 10 years of football and has an injury history and had his worst season in years last year. Chris Ivory came in as his backup last year and was more efficient and effective, so you can’t just make the case that the Bills were bad. Williams was a monster in the playoffs and looked like a great fit in the offense
The main case for McCoy over Williams is familiarity at this point. But to me that’s a great case for him as a backup to Williams and will play some downs in relief of him. I don’t think McCoy gets the majority touches based on that familiarity with Reid

You don’t think mccoy and the chiefs spoke about a role before he signed? He’s made $60 mil in his career, I don’t think he’s just going to the highest bidder. The $3 mil commitment means more coming from the chiefs
McCoy sucked with the bills. Damien Williams wasnt shite with the dolphins. Chark west, knife Davis, Spencer Ware. Can’t do shite elsewhere. The data is there, this is the best RB system in the league going back to Duce Staley and Brian Westbrook. If McCoy can’t get it going here then we can declare him done

Exactly. If Shady has anything left in the tank, this is where it comes out.

Everyone’s take on LeSean McCoy in KC depends entirely on how much Damien Williams and Darwin Thompson they’ve drafted so far
this is about right
Posted on 9/1/19 at 10:42 am to GynoSandberg
As a guy who has none of Dam and only 1 share of Darwin, that’s exactly right.

I think they did speak about a role. I think he’s coming in as relief and a high end backup. He’s mainly joining for the chance at a SB imo

Chiefs RB Damien Williams ranked 51st out of 72 RBs in @PFF Elusive Rating last season (incl. playoffs)
LeSean McCoy ranked 61st.
Rookie Darwin Thompson had the best elusiveness profile in the 2019 rookie class.

Elusiveness rating:
Here’s top elusive rating RBs for 2018 season:
Henry was garbage 80% of the season, yet he and Marshawn Lynch are top 5
Williams:
Note the Chiefs O line came in at number 13 in PFF 2018 grades, so it’s not like they were just road grading for Williams. Williams has a great burst off the line
Also interesting
PFF Chiefs throwing shade:

quote:
We combine a runner’s carries and receptions to give a total ball handling opportunities figure. We then combine the number of missed tackles that player forced against both the run and the pass to get a total missed tackles forced figure, which is then divided by the ball-handling opportunities. This figure then gets multiplied by a player’s yards after contact per carry average (*100) to get the final Elusive Rating. In essence the rating is a combination of how often players force missed tackles and how much yardage they generate after contact on a per carry basis.

i aint trying to argue with you in this thread, you were the last post in the thread. you're opinion is noted

I got a bit carried away posting all the Damien williams stuff that came up with PFF. Their graphics are top notch. I just don’t like that tweet you posted, SI cherry picking stats. Williams isn’t about elusiveness, his burst off the line and his receiving ability were top notch last year. And he was elite in the red zone too

Elusive rating is a snapshot of what a RB can do beyond the help of his OL and scheme. For instance, Hunt was an elusive rating and forced missed tackle beast dating back to Toledo. These are independent of system and OL.
I also think Damien Williams is a good player, i dont have an agenda here. He's always been an adept pass catcher. But Reid's system has always lent itself to being kind to PFF RB analytics, including Charles, Hunt and Ware before him. That's kinda the point with McCoy getting a shot there. Take off the blinders

Any word on this. I drafted zeke and about to draft in the 7th round.

Idk I’m just not seeing the reason for McCoy starting over Williams or even getting a significant number of touches

Update: A #Cowboys front office source showed less optimism than the source quoted in above report about the momentum toward an agreement.
This source characterizes the likelihood that a deal gets done in time for Elliott to be ready to play Week 1 as “50/50”.

Zeke signing imminent
Zeke not likely to sign before week 1
Zeke and Cowboys close to agreement, should be ready week 1
All that shite we said earlier, is...shite. Zeke signing before week 1 is 50/50
Stop playing with my emotions!
