I love unresolved closer situations like this when it comes draft time.

That's an interesting pick to say the least.

How so? I've got 2 corner IF positions to fill. Why wouldn't I take the top MLB ready "prospect" at that spot?

You could drop him, I guess. Not sure what good that would do though.

Prospect is a stretch at this point. MLB ready? He's being handed the opportunity but he's failed to stick in previous auditions. Might be a good pick, but it's a pretty big gamble.

That's why I put prospect in "quotes". But i disagree w/ you in the fact that he's never been given a full time corner infield job. The only opportunity he's been handed was as a pinch hitter & DH. Young guys are known to struggle when they're out of their comfort zone (DH/pinch hitter roles are an adjustment). I'd just like to see what he can do now that he's got 1B job all to himself. They'll start him in the 6-hole, so the pressure should be relatively low.

We'll see tho, it's a gamble. but aren't most high-ceiling prospects a gamble?

Is swapping him out against the rules?

Yes.

I would have swapped out brad lidge last year if it wasn't.

Ok fine. You can swap him out for anyone else currently on your roster.

SURPRISE, ARIZ. -- The news on Royals closer Joakim Soria couldn’t be much worse. An examination Monday revealed “definite damage” in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and seems likely to require surgery.

General manager Dayton Moore acknowledged Soria might require reconstructive elbow surgery, commonly known as Tommy John surgery. Soria underwent that procedure in 2003 to replace the same ligament.

The need for another Tommy John procedure will likely be determined Tuesday when Soria undergoes a follow-up examination by Dr. Lewis Yocum, an elbow specialist, in Los Angeles.

“We’ll see what that reveals,” Moore said, “but maybe so. It’s unfortunate. Joakim is such a professional person, and he’s obviously hurting right now. Let’s hope for the best. If it needs reconstruction, let’s hope for a good outcome.”

i think you should be able to add a player from your old roster but it would have to be a RP

ETA: and i know that wont be popular. But id say it for anyone except maybe rick

ETA2: only if he is officially diagnosed out for the year between now and the draft

Well, I wasn't sure if this had happened before, which is why I asked. I would've only wanted to replace him if he was having TJ and done for the year. I wouldn't expect to replace him if it wasn't a year thing.

Redd said it happened last year, but Lidge was only going on the DL for 3-6 weeks and he never asked to replace him

ETA- I know this won't be popular

Lidge didn't return until the all star break or some shite, and I didn't ask because I honestly didn't even think of proposing something that nutty.

I will always listen to what other people have to say, but I would absolutely vote no on something like this.

Well they gave a timeline for Lidge's injury on 3.29.11 of 3-6 weeks with a shoulder injury.

We drafted on 3.28.11. On 3.25.11 they said he would start the season on the DL. It's not like you knew he would be out until the All Star Break.

I didn't think it was nutty to ask if I could swap out a guy who will miss the year with another guy that was previously on my team. Does it really change anything?

Just thought it was something to discuss for the future. Maybe a team can forfeit a pick in order to add a new player off their old team if a guy goes out for the year before the draft.
