Had a chance to listen in on his interview yesterday. Very well spoken guy. Definitely see how he moved up in the UL system so quickly. We can only hope that the school doesn't mess this up and go with Tate and his "STEM research"

Agreed! Everyone with an interest in the University should fill out this survey! Should have been stickied IMO, but I'll post again.

He may have done well in the system he's been running but LSU is a much more difficult job

My vote would be the South Carolina finalist
You need to know the academicians and ins and outs of a flagship type school and they don't need a Louisiana connection for this job

LSU is woke enough. We don't need a CRT disciple to kill it altogether.

Totally wrong take. This guy needs to be able to get money from state legislators for the LSU system. The role of president has almost nothing to do with the day-to-day academics of the schools/students.

As long as he doesn’t send me emails about how inclusive lsu is or how diverse they’re striving to be, I’m good

So you want the critical race theory guy who says math is racist running LSU? Got it.

The role of the president, yes. However, LSU has the roles of president and chancellor of the main campus (BR) combined. So LSU's president has to also handle the academic/student affairs/athletic issues of the main campus too, not just lobbying the legislature and donors.

While I agree with you that Dr. Henderson would be in for a new challenge with LSU as he has not had to manage a system as large in its diversity (not talking diversity of people here), you can be assured that Henderson is the most qualified in comparison to the other 2 candidates.

I don't know if you realize, but Dr. Henderson was the head of Northwestern St. Univ. prior to becoming the UL system president. That means he has dealt with the issues of a singular campus as well before.

Dr. Tate is only the provost of S. Carolina's main campus, which means he primarily deals with the academic and faculty issues of the campus. This is just 1 of many, many aspects that the president of LSU has to deal with.

As a breakdown, here is a synopsis of what LSU's president has responsibility for:
- Oversee the budget and policy issues for 1 system that includes 4 academic campuses, 4 professional schools, 1 agriculture center (that encompasses many research facilities and extension offices in every parish of the state), plus a hospital system.
- Act as a budget and policy administrator for the main campus
- Lobby government and raise money from donors for both the system as a whole and the main campus
- Oversee one of the largest and most successful athletic programs in the country
- Oversee the academic, faculty, and student affairs of the main campus

That last thing listed...that's what Dr. Tate is responsible for at S. Carolina. Dr. Henderson has pretty much done everything on that list, just on a smaller scale. Plus Dr. Henderson has already once had to enter into and clean up a Title IX mess when he became UL system president.

Great break down. My issues with Tate go beyond his research. You throw a provost or someone that doesn't have experience dealing with some of the responsibilities that comes with being president into the shite show that is currently LSU, and you are asking for a total system failure. Dr. Henderson may not be the perfect candidate, but he is damn sure the most experienced out of the three options.

Exactly. Part of King's failure (arrogant personality aside) was because his only experience before LSU was dealing with a much smaller and less complex campus and never being the leader of a multi-campus system. It was way too much for him to handle.

Dr. Henderson is the best candidate , and it’s not even close ..
LSU needs a strong leader with a vision and a plan ,
and someone wanting to stay for the time it takes to see it through , and with the ability to work with the the legislature to make it happen
The other candidates offer none of the above
Case closed

Search committee wanted to make recommendation to BOS last Friday. Probably not a good sign that this is dragging out, and don’t like the stupid survey that can be anonymous (nothing to stop Bama fans from making up names and support Tate.)
