Clemson has verbal commitments from the top three defenive tackles in the country, Bresse, Capeheat and Williams. That’s crazy.

yes that is crazy but its not just LSU fans, every team in the country is jealous of that. WE should end up OK on dline recruiting in the next class though. At least 3 quality in state DL's, plus a few highly rated out of state, are giving us a look. We should be able to land 3 good ones.

but this has been said upwards of 100 times on this board. The Clemson dlineman is probably something new said on this board, but Clemson is not LSU
Correct

the fact that Clemson has the top 3 rated dlineman committed for this class is shameful for O regardless of how good this class is shaping up to be. It’s head scratching to say the least, given O’s background.

Did you not pay attention to the recent trial. Clemson is paying for those linemen. Very simple

Meatball has to be a major problem for LSU. I'm surprised he wasn't axed by now. He clearly is not a great recruiter and that's obvious on the plethora of misses. More interesting, we have dlineman wanting to leave LSU despite knowing they'll probably be starting by default next year. That might say something about both coaches at this point.

Offered a lot more than that, Bama got deep pockets though

the big question is where are those dlinemen from? it's easier to pick guys up in your neck of the woods.

give dabo credit - he's created a culture up there. his coaches don't leave and they develop talent. he not only recruits great qb's, knowing their value - he let's them play instead of putting handcuffs on them.

it's possible our former coach could've won another championsip with a desean Watson at qb, but it surely would not be a sure thing the way he called a game. with those great defenses, yeah, you could make a pretty good argument he would have, but, just think if we had had Desean and we just get running the ball into the middle of the line over and over and over again. think you would've gone nuts?

Both Clemson and Bama has higher rated defensive tackles in their 2019 class.

I don't care what these recruiting services say about dlinemen, but Ika is the best d tackle from the 2019 class. From what I've seen and heard I can't imagine anyone else being a better dlineman from that class. As far as being a nose guard anyway. But, yes I agree, this is the year LSU must get some top quality dlinemen and Roy and Guillory are must gets. So far LSU is doing a great job bringing in recruits. I see no reason why they won't finish this class off with some great players in the trenches.

We better get Roy, Lee, Guillory, Berry and 1-2 more. We need some true DE’s at the 290 range. We need some guys that cause disruption and do more than just eat up blockers along with depth. We are still suffering from the Miles/Chavis/Haley years.

Add to this depth chart, what you would like to see.

E
Neil Farrell 6-4 290 sr
Soni Fonua 6-4 275 sr
Joseph Evans 6-3 315 so
——-Michael Williams 6-2 280 so

NT
Tyler Shelvin 6-3 340
Siaki Ika 6-3 335 so
——-Jordan Berry 6-2 330 fr

E
Glen Logan 6-4 310 sr
Justin Thomas 6-4 270 sr
Nelson Jenkins 6-4 300 so

I think we are good with just three more. If we get four, then hooray for us.

How many of those guys are unproven?
Thomas
Fonua
Evans
Williams
Jenkins

What happens if Shelvin, Ferrell and/or Logan all blow up and declare early? We have to build depth because not all of them will pan out or stick around. Cotton is a prime example.

I was really hoping Mckinnley would come back around, but Roy and Guillory are must since they are from Louisiana. I really haven't seen much of Lee. I will go see him against Walker next season and check him out though.

You’re right, they’re unproven.

But there is a par level on every position and you can get away with robbing one position to pay for another. But we cant sign an additional 6 guys just to make sure. Plus you have to trust Orgeron on guys like Evans and the juco guy. They’re just frosh

That would only leave us with about three spots to offer to oline, which is just as bare on the interior.

......if anything, aranda has enough linebackers and we don’t need anything else there. We also have 8 cornerbacks so we are good there too.

Why not make this class about the trenches?
Dline:
Berry
Guillory
Roy
Lee
Wright
Some late bloomer or someone we didn’t see coming

Oline:
Ford
Jackson
Dumervil
Merriweather-Lewis
Van Pran
Possibly a TE like Parker that can develop into an OT

That’s 10-12 big guys. They are far more needed than any other position. Elite linemen will make your other skill position guys better.

3 WR’s
2 QB’s
1 RB
2 Safeties
2 CB’s
1 TE
3 LB’s

That’s a 25 man roster. If we keep Ford and land Dumervil then we can keep Jackson at Dline unless he just grades out better at OT. Either way, this class needs 9-11 big guys, with the majority being Dline and OT’s. We have OG’s for days and Van Pran can play C or OG. We need to focus on Dline and OT’s for this class.

I hear the new coach from University has them buzzing out at Walker this year.

Think they will be able to make a deep run for the first time ever? Lots of talent..

It's obvious that schools like Clemson and bama are offering better packages to D linemen than LSU is. Are LSU boosters cheapskates when it comes to the defensive front? They need to stop low balling these prospects and give them fair market value. Even if some have to be bought above market value, at positions like D line it's worth it.

They seem to have an inordinate amount of resources allocated to DB and WR. I think they should reevaluate their position and diversify a bit.
