Keto vs Macros

So I’m getting back to this.
After I had my daughter I worked my arse off. Lots of strength training plus crazy insane metcon. And sometimes I would run a bit after.
Got pregnant, still coached with my big belly and all but once he came. I was a single mom of 2 and gym was hard.
Now that we have a great schedule and I can get in 1-2 hours a day of the gym I’m motivated to lose weight and gain muscle.
When I did this the first time 3 years ago it was all about macro counting.
Now I’m seeing the new trend KETO. Can someone help me out?
Do you think I should stick with Macros or move to Keto?
And how do you get started on ketos?

Don't matter which way you choose, still have to be in a deficit and you must be consistent in that deficit across a week. With keto you will notice a drop in performance usually and it usually last 6-8 weeks but sometimes more.
If performance is important to you, I suggest leangains macros. If you care more about fast fat loss try keto, if you like it, stick to eat.
So easiest way to get started on keto is set your macros at 65% fat, 35% protein and zero carbs for two weeks, after that you can add define leafy greens and veggies.
My prefered method is steak, seafood and eggs.

Keto has its place but don’t like it for long term sustainability if you are like 95% of the population who enjoys carbohydrate. There are also other issues that make it rather difficult for most.
I would take an IIFYM approach with 80% of your caloric intake coming from whole food sources with 20% coming from “treats” or”bad” food. Much more sustainable long term and proven by the 1,000s getting results with the method.
Trick is figuring out your macros then being diligent enough to track.
Good luck

In case you missed it we have a Keto community here on tigerdroppings...

Keto is all about macro counting also, just in a different way. Read the thread I linked above and it will explain most of your questions.

Thanks guys. I had a sports nutritionist figure out my macros last time I did this. I think I'm going to go the IIFYM route. I really don't want to lose performance.

just use this, select the leangains option and use that as your macros then.

I use Avatar Nutrition for my macros. It has done wonders for me over the last year and a half. You have to log everything you eat but that is a small price to pay to continue to eat foods a love while reaching body composition goals.

Meh I find good clean eating and exercise the best for long term health, but hey that’s just me. I’m not going to be like your keto tard that pretends it’s the only way and all carbs are the devil.
Guy should choose what works best for him.

Longer fasting periods have more effect than stressing over macros. To lose fat you just lower insulin which is easiest to do by not eating. Carbs and protein raise insulin, carbs moreso. Fat does not. If you eat once a day, your insulin can raise, to what extent depends what you consumed, but your body will go through the process and insulin will drop back down. It will remain down and begin signaling your body to fat burn until you eat again.
Healthy unprocessed carbs during your feeding window, especially when paired with fat and protein, will not spike it out of this world. It's a balanced meal and you'll go right back to burning stores of fat after insulin goes down.
Your body does not have a hormonal signal for calories. Plenty of research showing that certain populations in a study were drastically over fed and their bodies kicked into gear to burn it up. You have a set body weight point, basically your body trying to remain in homeostasis. At extreme levels, the body won't keep up so weight gain will occur but eventually if those extreme calories are dropped back to the previous standard diet of the person, the body throws that weight right back away within a pretty short time frame. That is due to metabolic rate. Caloric restriction will lower your metabolic rate. Look up the biggest loser study. It also is true that a lower insulin diet such as keto is better at preserving muscle mass and metabolic rate. But if you are eating healthy carbs and only once a day, you're insulin can still be very low allowing you to eat a little more flexibly.
A week researching fasting, hormonal influences of macros, and listening to Dr. Jason Fung will tell you more than anyone here as far as diet goes. Of course not everyone is the same and as a woman, you'll find the myths that women are hurt even more by fasting than men, which is not true. After fasting , women benefit more from lower Ghrelin than men do.

That's not even going into what new science is showing carbs do to glycocalyx and the ramifications of doing so.

the research on insulin really is amazing. I was sloppy earlier trying to explain about the calories. On a caloric restriction, you may eat four meals and stay within your restriction, but the insulin spikes signal your body to continue to store that as fat, eventually leading your body to adapt to that restriction as the new baseline. It really is neat and amazing that people have been lied to for so many years.

So are you now the authority on what good clean eating is? You know, keto can be good and clean as there is nothing inherently wrong with it.

Excuse me? I bet you felt all manly calling me that. I just told you to leave the OP alone if they wanted to keto it up. If they want to go that route - wish them luck instead of being insulting.
