Why did the Saints let fullback Burton walk?

He had a lot of experience in college carrying the ball compared to many fullbacks and seemed to be a good blocker also and receiver out of the backfield (was in college). I didn’t think he cost that much and still relatively young.

Because he is a fullback and we barely use that position

I saw Taysom line up as the FB in front of AK at one point on Sunday but then right before the play Kamara shifted out wide and I realized Taysom wasn't the FB after all

Good question.

They brought in armah to take that spot but then cut him.

Maybe payton wanted something different out the fullback spot.

Burton seemed so versatile and could do the hammer up the middle role and save Taysom on those plays from risking injury. Burton ran, blocked, and caught very well, had decent speed, etc, seemed like the perfect fullback here. Apparently I am wrong

All true.

Perhaps you just described Taysom.

That's a good point, I didn't realize the fullback we signed this season was released. I guess I just didn't see the new one being better than Burton. If Payton doesn't want a true fullback since we have Taysom doing all that then I understand.

I think he wanted a fullback.

Armah just didn't make the cut.

I think not having a fullback came down to numbers this year. Not like he said i have taysom so i don't need a fullback.

Because we have to carry 3 QB's with Taysom. Position probably became a numbers game. Just my completely uneducated guess.
